I can still see him being picked up on the last day of free agency by a play-off contender that would like some depth at SG/PG (as long as they can convince AI to come off the bench, or start him and sub him early

He's got a big egoooooooo.....Such a huge egooooooooooo
Iverson will never agree to come off the bench. He has been starting since he stepped on the basketball court.

The way AI plays, it would be downright cruel to ask him to come off the bench. He's just not made to do it. Plenty of ego, yes, but even more desire. Thanks, AI, for a lot of great Hoya memories.

Chuck, don't be a fool!! Take the money while you can because you only have a few years of earning power left, and we all know how you have never been shy when it comes to spending money.
Take the ego down a notch and go to a run and gun team (i.e. Suns). No you will not start, but you will get solid, steady minutes.
Now cut the crap, and get back to doing what you do best!

Does this mean the end of the Georgetown All -Star streak going back to 1986? Bubba Chuck made being a 76er fan enjoyable. I hope he comes back somewhere.

Comcast sports said it had inside knowledge that it wasnt true, hinted that JTII had spoken to AI and said so. Not sure if that is worth anything or not.

The report I just saw said he hasn't retired. Ron Thompson reported that JTII talked to Iverson (wonder how he got that scoop) and he hasn't filed retirement papers. He's going to meet with JTII in the next week to "discuss his future." They also said that Pops was dead set against him retiring. That's all well and good, but I still don't see where he's going to play. The whole thing seems sad. I'd like him to go out in a better way than this.

Maybe the Wiz can get him so they can have two egos, Arenas and Iverson. Great scorer, not a winner. I was a junior at Gtown when he arrived, remember he took like 30 shots in his first big game against I think Nolan Richardson's Arkansas. Nothing really changed in 15+ years for Ole Bubbachuck.

I was at his first game in Memphis when he took a zillion shots and turned the ball over. NOt much has changed. We were beat handily by Arkansas. A great entertaining athlete, a great scorer, not a very good on the ball defender( lots of steals but a zorro type of defense), good passer but in the end not a big time winner. Arenas is an appropriate heir to his non winning legacy but with less skill. Les Boulez stink with just one self centered guard, we sure don't need another.

Talk some d@mn sense into his head big john. Seriously, allen retiring at this time is pure stupidity. Chuck is not a stupid man, so I put a lot of faith into the sit down that he will have with the Don of hoya hoops

1) I think AI would be willing to come of the bench for a contender. He said at memphis that he's be ok with comign off the bench if they were winning and it was best for the team. But they were losing and he was better than the people in front of him.
2) listening to Jay williams and Doug goutlieb last night they actually made great points about how hard it is to come off the bench after being a starter so long. I think everyone's quick to judge. But actual basketball players( sort of in doug's case) totally got it and sympathized with him.
3) even if he does actually "retire" I don't think it will stick. He will be back. 4) the knicks are stupid for not taking him.

There are rumblings that the Celtics are considering it. He would certainly be more entertaining than the Starbury experiment and would be a great kick in the butt for Rondo.

TItle of this thread has such a negative connotation. Id prefer if it said 'retiring' but who am I?

I would love to see the C's get AI, but Eddie House presently has the same role Allen would, and probably for a lot less money. You never know, though.
I hope of the reports of his retirement are premature and Big John can talk some sense into him.
By the by, did you ever think we would appreciate what Credit Card Gottlieb has to say?

Iverson finds playing time more important then winning--best to retire.

Wow, a lot of hating. Maybe you preferred the results from your first two years at Georgetown to the results your last two years?
