Worst fans in the Country: That award goes to the posters on this board. It is mind boggling how many people on this board have come up with answers to solve problems that it is still unclear we have. It is the second game of the season. I mean seriously. Players are returning from a very disappointing season trying to find a rhythm. I wonder how many posters on this board have ever played ball post high school? Id guess a very small minority.
Anyway, all that matters at this time of the year is that we are winning games and building our tournament resume. Temple is a solid team. Let the players get their feet beneath them and work through some of the jitters and we will be a solid team.
But for Pete's sake, stop crying about how the roof is falling after the second game of the season. At least wait until there is a reason to panic. Right now there isnt. We are 2-0 and will be 6-0 by the time we play Butler so everyone just relax.

People are complaining, not because of what we saw in the second game of the season on its own, but because it is what we've complained about for over a year now. If this were one game standing on its own, you'd be right. But looking back to previous seasons, you can see trends, and those trends are concerning.

Expectations are too high for this team and that's why some people post so passionately like they have done after Temple. In my mind, Temple is likely a top A10 team and Hoyas are middle of the road Big East team. This year, that's about equal and probably means bubble at the end of the season. So the win was huge.
However, to say that we'll be 6-0 by the time we play Butler is a bit of a joke. The next four games are meaningless and are glorified scrimmages for us. Playing well and winning one of the games against Butler, Washington and Duke is the most we can hope for in my opinion out of conference. Going 2-2 in those games (including Temple) is fine.
I hope the Hoyas win most of their games at home where I'm spending $1000 per ticket, make the NCAA tournament and win one or two games there to keep the program in the national conversation for recruiting, TV appearances, etc. If you lower your expectations to this, it's a lot easier not to get worked up over some of the things we saw yesterday.

On the plus side of us looking terrible,( while not actually being terrible, imo) hopefully all the other teams specifically butler and Washington underestimate us. Send that tape to opposing teams, no one will guard our 3pt shooters.

Completely Agree Dhall. I think expectations on this board get out of hand sometimes. We have at best a 7 man rotation right now. And regardless of whether these guys were 4 or 5 star recruits when they played high school ball it means nothing at this level. That is why there are so many players that were lightly recruited that become stars at the college level and vice versa. Recruiting rankings are an art and not a science, so all of these preconceived notions of greatness because some guy played in a game sponsored by McDonald's needs to be ratcheted down a little. If anything, the rankings are better indicators of NBA potential versus NCAA potential.
Let's just get some perspective and enjoy watching these guys develop into good players. We still have no seniors on the team and we are work in progress. I think accepting this will help a lot of people on here not have meltdowns after every poor game or performance.

It's just because of what happened last season, people are rightfully concerned that what we thought was an aberration might be turning into a trend. No way to tell though after just 2 games.

Hmm I will agree with the notion that expectations are a bit high. As it stands right now, we have a 3 man rotation at big to cover 2 spots and a 4 man rotation on the wing to cover 3 spots. The depth needs to be addressed.
But again, I think we are a solid team. Before I start screaming like my head is on fire, I will take a wait and see approach to this season because the big deal with last season was the lack of chemistry. I will not speculate as to how much that played a role in our demise, but it was a factor. If 3 is the coach that we think he is, or want him to be, he will get this thing turned around and we will look a lot smoother.

Well, we don't quite have Kentucky's sense of entitlement (and we're not Bolivian soccer fans, who are not in the country but will forever be the worst fans in the world), but yeah, we sure do whine a lot.

When you decide how good a team can be after the first two games, that panicking. When you decide there has been no improvements and we are the same team as last year after just two games, that is panicking. Theres a fine line between critical and panicking and many here have crossed it.

I could twist this argument around a little. I am super positive about the players on the team having exceptional talent and being good kids. I want them to have fun playing and be able to utilize their talent. You can hide under the guise of being positive but in reality you are just really pro Thompson III and the Prince-Town system. Which is cool too. Seeing the players not having fun and constricted frustrates me because it is like being in a fight with one hand tied behind your back. Monroe should have made the exact "game winner" move about 10 more times during the course of the game. Temple stinks and will finish blow 5th in the A 10. Mark my words. I am really POSITIVE about the talent on the team while others are super POSITIVE about the Coach and his system. Hoepfully the two will mesh and the holier than thou rhetoric will disappear as well.

What a misleading title. We all know Syracuse has the worst fans in the country... No... I am pretty sure most of the people on here have Syracuse fans beat in the bad fan department sadly enough. They lost to a DII school and still had hope, we beat a possible NCAA contender and we are already melting down.

Our passion shows that we're not "bad fans." "Bad fans" run from the team at the first sign of trouble. This board doesn't run from the team. We just...run around without any purpose at all. But we stay with the team.

That award goes to the posters on this board. It is mind boggling how many people on this board have come up with answers to solve problems that it is still unclear we have. I guess you don't follow message boards at some other schools, where the season starts with a prelude to the Final Four and ends with fans monitoring air traffic control web sites to see if a private plane has arrived in the middle of the night from a coaching candidate's home town. I know there are some who expect the fan base to do more and say less. Georgetown basketball fans don't travel en masse, they tend not to support other GU teams in great numbers, and the Verizon Center could still sell out a few more games. But this board has been fortunate to maintain educated and passionate fans that can serve as a community of interest to advance the program. Ten years ago, when the Hoop Club numbered in the mid-hundreds and average attendance average topped out in the 8,000's with lots of free tickets out there, this kind of argument might have been more appropriate, but not now. Bill Russell once said "The opposite of love is not hate, it's apathy." I don't see a lot of apathy on these pages.
