We NEVER would've won this game last year.
We played like kaka, but we fought back from six points down with not a lot of time left. We wouldn't have done that last season.

The only positive, but yes, a big one.

Yes, agreed though they did miss some key free throws

This is probably the best outcome you could have hoped from game like this. Sure a blow-out would have been nice, but the team learned alot about itself this game, and gained much needed confidence in close games. Its November, people, just relax.

and they made key stops when they needed to. Chalk this up as an off game that we wont get penalized for. At least Temple is a legit D 1 school. Cough *** 'Cuse ***Cough

I'll add another positive: Ending Temple's streak against us.

We outrebounded them by 3 we combined with temple to hold them to 31% shooting We didnot hide when they went up late. we showed some mental toughness which was clearly lacking last year.
Ill take that for the middle of november.

#2- we "held" them to 31% shooting. No, we didn't. They missed wide open shots, we didn't hold them to anything. The only positive I take out of this game is that Austin is finally not half asleep for most of the game and is actually playing within his ability.

That's why he used "combined with Temple".

Another potential positive is the way we managed to win it. From what it sounds like, CW just dribbled around the 2nd-to-last possession and then chunked up a 3 (paging Kevin Braswell to the Phone Booth, Kevin Braswell to the Phone Booth). And for the last possession, we gave it to the big guy and let him win or lose it for us.
Hopefully, the team will learn from that going forward: give it to Monroe and put it on him to win is better than chunking up a 3 (especially when a blind man could have hit more 3's than we did this game).

To be fair to Chris, while the second to last possession sucked, Greg gave up the ball and Chris got his hands on it with seven seconds left.

It's better to win an ugly game than to lose a pretty game. One of the hallmarks of JTIII teams that we missed last year was winning close games.
Even in the 'good days' of 2007 and 2008, we had a lot of games that were closer than they should have been. The difference between those years and last year was that we won pretty much all of them in the good days, and lost all of them last year.

Seeing Greg want, nay, DEMAND the f&*!$^g ball is a huge positive for me.We've got to find our go-to-guy and it was good to see Greg do his damndest to take on that role.
And, you always like to see your team recover from an 18-point swing to win, no matter anything else outside of it.

Another positive is that Monroe does not look like an obvious early exit to the NBA. Still more potential than production. Obviously things will change, but I do not see any outside shot and little skill moving to his right. Of course no reason to learn in college when you can get pais to learn in the NBA. In fairness I still think this team can make the NCAAs and go far, but only if we can develop better outside shooting and ballhandling. No denying the athleticism though. Wish we could use it more in an upa nd doen game once when the Princeton offense is not clicking. How many teams could stay with these guys?

lurker- demanding the ball? I guess I missed that part. If he was demanding the ball, it was so he could catch it, think about going to the hoop for half a second, and then passing it out again. After 33 minutes of play, he had 3 points. Don't get me wrong- he should be the go to guy on this team, but if today is any indication, and I'm not saying it is, he's not there.

I'd rather give him the ball with a chance he would take it to the hole than ANY OTHER OPTION.

"Give Greg the ball and everybody else get out of the #$%&ing way" is a lot better than most of our plays out of timeouts last year. A lot like the Jeff Green vs. Vanderbilt play.

These Temple-GU games are always nightmarish from the point of view of watchable basketball. Recall the last home-home, with the game in the MCI to open JT3's tenure. Matchup zone this early in the season would make anyone want to rip eyes out. Kudos to JT3 for the ballsy scheduling, now let's work out the kinks.

Except we did give Greg the ball at the end of the game...he held it, and passed it back out to Wright with 2 seconds on the shot clock. All I keep hearing is "well, we won and we didn't do that last year". I'm sorry- we didn't win, Temple lost by not hitting the 800 open jumpers we gave them and by missing more than half their free throws. Show me an actual solid effort by this team and I'll be the first to come on here praising them for the actual improvement they showed. Today was not that game.
