It sounds like he's happy but the article also makes it seem like it was all GTown's fault that he wasn't happy here. I mean, this is just ridiculous. Did anyone expect him to be AI or Braswell? Did anyone blame him for not being AI or Braswell? I know I didn't. I didn't like him as a player, but that was because I hated the way that he always seemed to panic in the clutch, which is definately not a good characteristic for a PG. One other quote from his coach stuck out: I'm glad he's happy at Charleston, but the only way he helped Sweets get a first round pick is by not being good enough to take any pressure off him and forcing Sweets to carry the team himself.

as for the coach's quote -- hey, he's trying to make his kid look good. Nothing wrong with a coach being supportive.

Drew Hall was about as clutch a guy we had outside of Sweetney in the 2002-03 season.
He made a couple three-pointers late in the game and in the overtimes in South Bend, and also made the game-icing three in the NIT quarters in Chapel Hill. Not too shabby for a guy who saw limited minutes toward the end of the season.
Oh, and in 2002, there was that little pass for a dunk in the Big East Tournament as well...
Point is, leave him alone. He wasn't going to get any playing time, so he left. He was fine in the clutch when he was here. On defense, it's probably a different story, but still.

I haven't really witnessed people arbitrarily rip on Drew Hall (or Tony for that matter) until they go to their second institution and start calling out Georgetown. I wish them well until they attempt to criticize the school that first gave them the opportunity to ball at a high level, especially when not many other high profile programs were recruiting the guy.

drew hall clutch? are you kididng? he made one 3 pointer and all of a sudden he is clutch. other than sweetney, riley was the most clutch player we had easily. hall stunk. i cringed every time he touched the ball. he played defense like a lawn chair and made countless bad decisions with the ball. i'm glad he's gone. he and bethel can both rot while we climb our way back to the top of the big east.
their selfish attitude was as much to blame for our struggles as esh was.

The reason why Drew hall wasn't Allen Iverson or Kevin Braswell was because he stunk. I can't believe the coach had the nerve to say that Drew Hall made Mike Sweetney great. That is beyond insane. Drew Hall always made you nervous because he would make a lot of costly errors down the stretch. He just was an average player, and that is the reason Esh did not start him and moved Bethel over to the point guard position. It sounds like he left because people thought he was better than he actually was, and he couldn't live up to those expectations. He was never going to be a great player, and was always going to be average, at best. Its not like he is lighting it up for his new team either.

yeah, this article seems a bit off to me too. I don't recall Hall being a clutch player, I recall him costing us more than one close game and people on campus bad-mouthing him - I always thought that was the reason he left.
That said, this is probably the reporter's fault and not Drew's. There are no quotes from Drew talking about how great he was, and as for the Coach, it is his job to support his players.
I think the biggest thing is that Drew seems happy and is on pace to get a college degree. Not everyone is gifted with the inate talent to be a major program basketball player, but it seems he made the right move for himself and has his life in order and I wish him well.

Some of the posters are being a little harsh. Hall says some very positive things about Georgetown ("I love Georgetown") and didn't take the opportunity to rip on the school or any individual. He basically says there was too much pressure for him, personally, to handle given his skill set and the fact that the Hoyas were losing. Seems understandable.

Not to beat a dead horse, but unless Drew Hall was in the locker room giving Mike Sweetney some Mister Miyagi style treatments before and after games, I don't recall how he would have helped make Mike Sweetney become a 1st round pick. The fact is that Mike Sweetney excelled at Georgetown in spite of his bad coach and non-Big East talent level teammates.

You are right. You did say you left on good terms with Esh, and he wasn't the problem of why you left or you teammates. It was more a less the area putting unrealistic expectations on you. Best Wishes with your new team, Drew.
