He should start. He's better than the guards in front of him.

But such a diva. From time to time I think he has matured nicely, but he's still T.O. in sneakers (and I kind of like T.O., too, just want him to get his act together).

He should start. He's better than the guards in front of him. No. He should keep his mouth shut. It was bad enough he signed with Memphis (Charlotte or the Clippers would have been SMARTER selections) . However if he wants a chance to prove himself again and make himself attractive to teams in free agency next year (unlike, ya know, this year when no one wanted to touch him) he needs to suck it up and be professional. He needs to say the right things too even if he doesn't mean it.

My opinion on guys like AI and TO, players who always want the ball and are never happy and express this, but have also shown that they can back it up is that maybe they are right. Im a dallas fan and when TO was there i always thought he should have gotten the ball more. It is stupid to bring in a player of AI's talent and then treat him like he is a scrub just because he has an attitude, maybe if you did want he wanted (or tried it) you would find he is right.

Loooove AI, but this is just a terrible fit for him. He's nearing the end of his career and has stated in no uncertain terms that he wants a championship. He's obviously not good enough anymore to carry a team to that level in the NBA, but what he presumably can do is provide a potent scoring punch to a contender who needs a pure scorer. Memphis is basically made up of pure scorers who add little else, including a young face of the franchise who plays his exact position! (OJ Mayo) So this seemed doomed from the start. The problem for the Answer from my perspective is that shouting about how you're "not a 6th man" greatly reduces your chances of being traded to a contender near the deadline.

That's basically my take.

Iverson's been pathetic in how he's handled the end of his career and his obsession with "starting". If starting means more to him then winning--then just retire and quit threatening to do so. Go away or suck it up and come off the damn bench but he's not a factor in the NBA anymore--he doesn' t influence the game the same and instead of finding a way to impact positively--he's just providing more ammo for those who never could stand him.
Sad way to exit--but just want it to end-because he doesn't get it.

Amazing that he could say all the right things all off season and not mean any of them.
Also amazing that he and Stephon Marbury started their careers with all those comparisons....and I think you could make a lot of comparisons about the grace in which these two have ended killed their careers.

I mean he did say that he was fine coming of the bench if it meant the team was winning game. but they're not. Would they win more with AI in the starting line up? maybe?

I'm in total agreement.......Iverson just needs to button it up and contribute however he can. Having said that, I have always struggled envisioning Iverson making a graceful exit from the league. I've never imagined him as the guy who would take on the role as crafty veteran taking youngins under his wing. Its just not his mental make up. Moreover, Iverson was never the best shooter, passer, or decision maker...what he was was the ultimate athlete and scoring machine. As soon as Iverson started slowing up and showing signs of age....his game deteriorated fairly quickly. In the end, the guy is a first ballot Hall of Famer....no doubt about it. But like the late Michael Jackson, aging gracefully just wasn't going to happen....its all or nothing with talents like this.
