Yes, and then 171, including most of the sponsors, voted against the bill it was attached to. Our government in action!

Good.
(I will say that the second half of the exclusion -- "anyone who has ever filed a fraudulent form" -- might be a little too restrictive though. One person's fraudulent form is another person's typo. But indicted for fraud? No, they shouldn't be getting federal money either, or at least they should be forced to demonstrate comprehensive organizational reform in order to be considered.)

That's like saying any college basketball program who's had a major violation is banned from the NCAA tourney. Why should UK be punished today for Eddie Sutton sending a wad of cash through DHL to a recruit? Companies don't commit fraud as much as the individuals at the companies do. If the company addresses the problem, I don't think they should be barred forever.

Whoa, looks like this could bring down the whole military-industrial complex. Why do conservatives want to cripple our defense?

The Democratic Secretary of State and Attorney General of Nevada are now investigating ACORN's leadership for voter registration fraud and hiring felons still technically imprisoned (in a halfway house) to canvass for them. According to the SOS, many of the felons had been convicted on charges of identity theft.
The Democratic Attorney General of Louisiana is now investigating ACORN's leadership on charges of embezzlement of up to $5M.*
I point this out for two reasons. A) The claim that ACORN just has a few bad apples has long been discarded by most sane people, but I think these investigations may finally put that canard to rest. B) I highlighted that these investigations are being conducted by Democratic officials because I am glad that this is not really a partisan issue anymore. It is a criminal issue, and I am encouraged that no one is letting party affiliation get in the way of that.
(*Interestingly, ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis seems to be disputing the amounts in the embezzlement charge...which is kind of like Roman Polanski saying that the girl really only had a couple of sips of champagne and part of a Quaalude.)

Well, it's slow this summer, so I thought I would revive this thread since those slimy, lying Editeds who preyed upon ACORN to further their personal agenda and fame have now been completely discredited. The victim in the CA ACORN video has filed suit against the "pimp" and "prostitute" for unlawfully video taping him. As it turns out, the employee engaged those vermin in conversation to gain as much info about them as he could. After they left, he immediately called the police and reported them for human trafficking. The tape, shown on a loop on Fox, was highly edited. The "pimp", during the interview, represented himself to ACORN as the "prostitute's" law school boyfriend, trying to save her from an abusive pimp. The "pimp"stuff was added after the fact. Sheesh! As well, CA AG's report completely exonerates ACORN, as do reports by the GAO, the Congressional Research Services, the Brooklyn District attorney, and the former AG in MA. Let's hear it for that ACORN bill. www.bradblog.com/?p=7940bit.ly/aaARFmbit.ly/an9f9Y

Both sides in this debate have egg on their faces, particularly some of the initial overreaction to the hit and run, MoveOn.org-style videos. The folks behind the videos have done a disservice and appear to have thought (accurately) that they would be believed if they played into certain stereotypes.
