When I was young, it seemed the Hoyas were wonderful, A miracle, Oh it was beautiful, magical. And all the fans in the stands, well they'd be chanting so forcefully, Joyfully, Watching our stifling D. But now they've started some threads that said my team's undependable, Incompatible -- Our coach is intractable. And they showed me some links: recruit-ing ineffectual, Damn it all, It made me quite cynical.
There are times when basketball's asleep, The questions run too deep For such a simple fan. Wont you please, please tell me what we've learned I know it sounds absurd But please tell me who I am.
Now watch what you say, or some will call you undutiful, Or deferential, Fanatical or criminal. Can't we state what we think, in terms that aren't so radical? Disrespecatable? We're Hoyas, not vegetables!
In my dreams, when Sleepy hits from deep, And Hibbert swats Thabeet, I'm such a happy fan. Won't you please, please give our boys a chance. Our coach knows how to Dance! And let all voice their plans...
For the fan...
In the stands...
Who I am!

I can return to the board with a thread like this. What a nice surprise to see this up here after a 2 month self-imposed stay away.
My positives:
1) Quite reasonably, we have 3 great candidates for BE first team: Chris, Greg, and Austin. Will they all make the 1st team? No, voters won't do it with the "lack of stats" put up in our system. But I think 2 could make it and I think it's highly reasonable to expect all 3 on the top 3 All- BE teams.
2) Hollis could definitely win BE ROY with what we are supposing his role on this team to be. He will be our outside bomber and will show a surprising mid-range and inside game at times, imo.
3) If Greg has developed any moves to the right and plays as tough as he did early in conference, especially against UConn, then we are looking at a legit Wooden award candidate. Won't have the pretty stats that ultimately he needs to win it, but BE POY, ala Jeff Green, is definitely possible. In conference, there simply aren't any big men that can match up this year, after so many last year
4) The field is wide open this year. There's not nearly the same returning veteran talent as last year both in conference and throughout the nation. We aren't fighting against veteran laden Tar Heels, Huskies, Panthers, etc. And there's no game changing froshies coming in, ala Rose.
5) We have a schedule that allows us to make some noise. We have some big-time OOC match-ups that are winnable. Beating Duke, Memphis, and Washington amongst others would thrust us back in the top 15, imo. And the conference still has some of the cache of its incredible difficulty last year, but without quite the same level of teams.
6) We are hungry! Well, I know the fans are and I have to think the team is too.

memphis series continues next year in threory. In theory it was like the duke series 2 years then a break then 2 more years. But with the coaching change the series may not continue. But probably will. For instance before calapari left duke was supposed ot play mephis this year. Now they're not, so who knows. But Butler, Duke and Washington leave plenty of opportunities to make noise.

Yeah, that was my bad. I knew we had a 4 year deal with Memphis and just assumed that it was 4 straight years. That's what I get for assuming. Nonetheless, Butler is another very strong opponent and Temple, ODU, American, and Mt. St. Mary's are no slouches. Win these plus either of the Duke/Washington games and we are definitely ranked top 20. Win them all, and I think it'd be tough to keep us out of the top 10. Many are pumping up Duke this year, so that would mean a lot and Washington has a good chance of winning the Pac-10, so that's some sizable wins, if we do it. Best reason we have a chance in both games: no one on either team can match up with Greg Monroe. I'm gonna add one more positive that I am totally stoked about: The Hoyas are playing a game on the West Coast and specifically in SoCal! Hell yeah! First time I'll get to see them play in person since graduating 3 years ago! Awesome! Just awesome!

Temple, ODU, American, and Mt. St. Mary's are no slouches. Don't sell yourself short AU, you're a tremendous slouch.
