UCONN only beat us by seven, not 13.

Great article!!! One mistake though, we lost to Uconn by 7, not 13.
And I agree that a 6' 11" Jeff Green along with continued development of his game would be extremely SCARY!!!

Calhoun has never been very magnanimous when comparing rival players to his own. He will always trumpet his own players as being better.

I don't criticize his being cheap to Jeff here, although I think he is giving ROTY credit to the wrong guy here. If we remember, a former BE coach had the bright idea of voting for Jaron Brown as defensive player of the year over Okafor. Brown was good, but let's get serious.

I don't blame a guy for supporting his own player. It's a bit like Bilas, who is now saying that Rudy is the best PROSPECT of the BE frosh, but Green is playing the best. More importantly, both Calhoun and Boeheim are giving accolades to Jeff -- they would look pretty stupid if they didn't! We are really lucky to have GREEN on our team... and we have Esh to thank for that -- as well as for Hibbert and Crawford... and Bowman and Cook. Esh left us with more talent than we realized. Of course, it took T3 to pull it together and develop these kids. Wow! I can't believe how positively I view our future in light of how negatively I was it 12 months ago!

Stats-wise, Green had a standout game in a winning cause against West Virginia; Gay had two solid efforts (18 points on solid shooting plus 7 boards in their win over Syracuse; 13 points on poor shooting in the loss to UNC). I'm not sure what the criteria is that they set for the coaches to judge this (i.e., can a guy who played only one game in a week win the award?). I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

This season, the BE has definitely awarded rookie/player of the week to someone who has played just one game during the week...let me tell you - i saw Gay play today and was thoroughly unimpressed - had a TON of open looks and failed to convert, plus he seemed to be loafing around on too many occasions - like he was stripped multiple times and just generally looked lukewarm as a competitor - however, he did have some NASTY blocks...

Sean Williams (BC): 0 pts this week. He's not a contender.
Ronald Ramon (Pitt): 13 pts, 4 boards, 3 assists vs. ND. 2 pts, 2 boards vs. SJU. He's not a contender.
Ollie Bailey (RU): 8pts, 7 boards vs. SH. No way does he win ROW.
Justin Cerasoli (SHU): 0 pts for the week. Also not a contender.
Basically, it's between Gay and Green.
Rudy Gay: 18pts, 7 boards, 2 assists vs. Cuse (a win). 13 pts (4-14), 6 boards, 2 assists, 4 blocks vs. UNC (a loss).
Jeff Green: 21 pts, 9 boards, 1 assist v. WVU.
To be honest, I think Gay will get ROW and deserve it. His Cuse stats are comparable with Green's WVU stats (a little worse, but comparable) and against a much better team. When you add in that he played ok against UNC (a top 5 team), you have to go with Gay. If Green had played another game, I think it'd be a different story, but he didn't, so Gay gets the award.

Yea, I thought the same thing about his play today. Although they are playing two different positions Green big forward and Gay small forward, it seems Green is a more talented player(notwithstanding my obvious bias). I believe Green has a better handle, and if called upon to play small forward, could do so without any drop in performance. I am not so sure Gay could play power forward as well as Green.
