If you had to name one key to a successful season for the 09-10 Hoyas, what would it be?
I know a lot of people are going to talk about the bench developing and contributing, specifically Thompson, Sims, and Clark, but I see that as more secondary.
If we are going to have any chance at all at making a run at the Big East Title as well as a run in the NCAA's, I firmly believe its going to come down to Greg. If Greg can assert himself and dominate when we need him to, I could see us beating anyone. He is going to have more talent than anyone else on the court 99.9% of the time. He just needs to understand this and step up. I felt like last year he played like a Freshman in the sense that when we were falling apart, he didn't take the leadership role on the court that could've stopped the bleeding.
Basically, this is Greg's team and we are going to go only as far as he takes us, in my view.

Uhhh not necessarily. I think balance more than anything. It is easy to gameplan for just one guy. Greg is not the beast that Melo/Blake Griffin/D Rose/Duncan were and he can be stopped with a double team. Nobody on our team is of that caliber and it will be crucial for everyone to play their part and work as a cohesive unit. While I will agree Greg is the #1 guy, it does not solely fall on his shoulders as you seem to suggest. Thus, it will come down to balance. If we can depend on everyone to fit into their respective roles we will be fine.

Heck, even MJ learned to give up the ball when NBA teams double-teamed him. But I get your point.

The key to winning with the Princeton is playing good D and making the shots whewn you are open and don't force the shots.

I think there are two keys to our season -
1. Sims/Vaughn - We need for one of these guys to contribute significantly this season in like a 10 points and 6-8 boards kind of way. Maybe one scores well and the other rebounds well, but we need something out of this spot so we don't play Hollis at the 4.
2. Our bench needs to give us another way to "skin the cat" just as DJ Owens gave us a sharpshooter's ability to win games when Roy was not on his game or Pat gave us hustle/rebounds to save possessions down the stretches of games. I don't think we had that kind of contribution last season, and when teams figured out how to beat our core group, we didn't have a Plan B.
As to rebounding, we need to get better, but I don't think we need to be a great or even a good rebounding team to have success. It would help, but it isn't necessary. Our 2006-2007 team was +4 in conference play, which is good, but by no means great when you compare it to Pitt at +10 this past season in league play. They have neither a BET title nor a Final Four to show for it. I consider rebounding as a goal but a "key" it is not in my estimation.

A Different Take:
1) The student body must be 100% behind the team – no empty seats in the student section ever! 2) Verizon must be sold out for all the big games and close to capacity for the rest. 3) Fans need to make mucho noise for the Hoyas – constant din as in the Pitt game (and a few others) 2 years ago. 4) PO is here to stay. The entire team must buy into it and play the system to perfection (or as close as they can get). 5) Therefore, we all need to do our part and not just complain when things aren’t going as well as we like.

I'm with Hoyas2006 - TURNOVERS. We generally always shoot the better than our opponent, but due to turnovers (and to a lesser extent rebounding), our BE opponents always seemed to have several more shot attempts than us. We cut down on the turnovers and control our opponents number of posessions...we start winning again.
Like the Ambassador, I've always maintained that the emergence of either Sims or Vaughn is critical. I'm going to add Austin Freeman to that list. If he has a break out year....we are in damn good shape.
