kids's got St. Johns written all over him. Win-WIn for both the program and Stephenson. From what I've read, the dream scenario is Lincoln wins the city title at MSG, then he announces to the crowd that he is committing to SJU. Redmen are saying many, many rosaries to get this kid -- if they don't, SJU could be terrible for another 3-4 years. Roberts has pretty much left the cupboard bare after next year.

He's a program changer for SJU. I hope they get him.

SJU needs a star. Lance needs a program that will let him be the star. NYC is the perfect spot for him. It MIGHT give SJU a recruiting boost, certainly make them relevant in the NY tabloids and media. Something has to happen to get SJU out of their rut... it would be great for them for the BE and for our rivalry if they can start climbing the ladder. They've been down too long.

SJU is the only program in this country that's a good fit for Lance. He'll be able to do whatever he wants there

He'll be able to do whatever he wants there I personally disagree with the Tyreke Evans-esque evaluation of his game, but time will tell. He has the passing talent and floor vision to be a stellar team player, although at SJU he might be best served by just scoring.

Lance wants to be the man. He wants to get to the league after one year. He'll have to share the ball here. He'll have to share the ball at memphis. those are really the only other two options.
At st. John's, he'll be able to shoot when he wants. He'll have mason back next season and a junior justin burrell. come to think of it, SJU would be much better with him next season. he should definitely go there

I concur with the sentiment that it would be good to see St. John's be strong again. Since Stephenson is likely a one and done, I'm not sure he is the answer, but he would certainly make them better next year. Perhaps that would give their recruiting a boost - it's hard to say.
Now here's a question, off point. If Syracuse had fallen on hard times as St. John's has, would we want them to come back strong for the good of the conference and the sake of our rivalry? I vote no! ;D

maryland fans seem to think they're right there with SJU for this kid - are they just being delusional, as usual?

Maryland offers -- if Vasquez goes -- almost exactly what SJU does. Ability to shine in a major conference with no pesky teammates to take the ball from you.
SJU is close to home; Maryland probably has a bit stronger exposure nationally (though not in NYC).
If Lance were smart, he wouldn't go to either. This should be his thought process:
1. I have the physical ability and skills to be one and done whereever I go. 2. The NBA can judge those abilities fairly easily in both games and camps. 3. What I need to prove to move up in the draft is prove my ability to be coached, play defense, play within a team concept, make my teammates better, and prove I can win.
And if I can't, I need to learn those things.
From that, he might come to a different conclusion.
I don't think he needs to worry about getting to the NBA. He should be thinking about being the best player he can be.

Maryland doesn't offer the ability to try to bring back NYC's most historic basketball program as a local kid who has played in that city his whole life. Maryland does not offer the home court of Madison Square Garden. If Norm can't get this kid, he needs to go. He has to go anyway, but that's another story...

anyone signed up to rivals to let us know the latest on Lance. Supposedly has dropped Memphis from considerations and added a couple of schools (assumption that College Park is one of them)

It'll take a flutie and an immaculate reception for him to end up at GU.
