Bennimon could be a sleeper. A great knack for rebounding in HS. A little scary to be counted on in the Big East though... High school stats, especially in less populated areas, are frequently not accurate indicators of high-major performance. To say that Jerrelle will be able to significantly contribute to the team this year is a major stretch -- I watched him in Kenner. Agreed 100%. I am wondering the same thing about Nikita... Although this little side discussion is concerning next year, which would be Jerrelle's sophmore season. Even then, anything more than a far-end-of-the-bench role would be a huge and pleasant surprise.

Anyone know if he has committed yet? Espn still has us listed as a place he is considering.

Not yet. Pitt has no schollies but is said to be the leader.

Must be nice to be able to lead, even with no schollies. But we know how that goes.

They'll find room I'm sure. This kid seems like the kid they have now, McGhee. No need to run plays for him. He does all the dirty work and is physical. Can hit a lay up and defend.

News from zags blog via Casualhoya is that Walker is about to cut down his list and is still interested in us. www.casualhoya.com/2010/2/22/1321429/maurice-walker-expected-to-cut#storyjumpWith the recruitment of Abraham and Reddic you have to wonder whether we would be willing to add 2 as opposed to 1 big this year. If Greg leaves for the draft then at the end of next year when Julian graduates (assuming no 'attrition') we'll have Lubick, Jerelle, Sims and then one other big assuming we pick up one of the three. I imagine many on the board prefer Abraham and Reddic to him but as a Sweetney partisan I can't help but being biased towards another potential bruiser.

Walker seems like the type of player pitt always gets that always annoys me because they kick our ass. I would really love to get a kid like walker. a kid who's going to be a bruiser and do the dirty work under the basket.

Some highlights of Brewster from last week. Check out the BIG man Mo (#15).
Check out the Barton show (#5). He's the real deal. Spin move in the paint at around 1:35 mark.

From a couple weeks ago. Here at the end of the highlights Mo hits the outside jumper. Around the 1:40 mark:

Nice thing about Walker is he helps your team and he hurts a competitor (Pitt) if you get him. Can't say the same thing about Moses Abraham, as most of the other schools he is considering are outside of the Big East (TN, KY, IN).

I don't think Walker would crack Pitt's line up next year. Dante Taylor is only averaging about 14 minutes a game, and less than 10 minutes a game in Big East play.

Walker trimmed list to 4 according to Scout: Georgetown, Pitt, Rutgers and Seton Hall.

If we don't get him I hope he ends up at the Hall.

JTIII obviously wasn't that impressed with Mo:
"INCREASED INTEREST
At one point it looked like Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy post man Maurice Walker was destined for Pittsburgh. Now the waters are a little murkier as other schools have jumped into his recruitment.
According to Brewster Academy head coach Jason Smith, Walker now has offers from Virginia, Minnesota, UConn and Pittsburgh amongst others."

In a previous update with Walker on Big East site--he mentioned Hoyas interest and that he'll visit "After the season". When an update says "amongst others" and lists his latest offers, then don't take that as a lack of Hoya interest.
Hopefully it'll be a moot point after Moses Abraham commits this weekend, but if not, Walker is still on radar.

I may be wrong, but I get the sense that the staff isn't that enamored with Mo. Of course I could be eating my words in a month or so but I do hope this is a moot point come Sunday.

I am surprised that we aren't talking more about this guy right now. Is he clearly inferior to Moses at this point, because his size alone makes me covet him. We are on our 24th page of Moses drama and nobody has said a word about Walker in that span, but word is he's still got us on the short list. So what's the reason he's not getting more hype right now? Because of the Pitt problem, because he's not as good as Moses, or because he seems to be a long way from deciding? Or none of those?

Well, it is unclear how much we want Walker. The general vibe, I think, has been that our staff is not all that interested. Who knows if that is right, but that is what has been out there.
Now, I hope we're interested in Mo. Even if he is a primitive big like Onuaku, we could use that size next year, particularly if Greg comes back. Regardless, he seems to do just fine on Brewster despite playing around a bunch of folks who need the ball.

Its mainly because he committed (before de-committing) and we didn't think we were a legitimate player...
