So close on AKD's three pointer. I'm convinced that if he ever does knock one down, I'm going to walk out of the MCI Center and meteors are going to be falling from the sky in Chinatown. AKD was knocking down threes regularly at the Kenner a couple of summers ago.

Hoyas hearing dancing musicBy Ken "Quit it with the gerunds" Wrightwww.washingtontimes.com/sports/20050213-125211-5189r.htm "We don't want to do what has been done in the past — we want to do our own thing, and Coach [John Thompson III] has emphasized that, especially when he first came here, he doesn't want to be looked as his father's son — he wants to be his own man," Bowman said. "That's how the team feels. We don't want to be looked at as teams of the past. We want to be our own team and get a legacy going that we started." "That's one thing this group has done a very good job of — not panicking when it gets ugly, not panicking regardless of how much time is on the clock and just figuring out how to win." -- JTIII
For me, this quote from the Times recap does as well as any of summarizing the success of this team. The poise these guys show game after game--especially when they rely heavily on three freshmen-- is a real credit to Thompson and his staff.
I'm starting to lose count of the wins this season that recent Hoya teams would have folded. For every way the Hoyas found to lose in recent years, we've found two to win this year. And we're not done yet.
And as impressive as the freshmen (Green, in particular) have been, I don't think enough attention has been paid to Ashanti Cook. He's playing as well as anyone on the team right now. With a chunk of games still left to play, Cook gets my vote for most improved player in the Big East.
It's fun to be a fan again.

Said Thompson: "You can't foul what you can't catch." (in reference to Beilein's comments that he should have instructed his team to foul Reed)
It has become obvious that JTIII really likes the spped element that Ray Reed brings to the table. I think the fact that coach likes him is one of the main reasons that I want to see him succeed.

What an awesome game--it was well worth the drive up from Charlottesville.
I was shocked to walk up at 3 pm and see the line for tickets out the door and halfway down the street to the corner. There was a LOT of walkup traffic, and no one was surprised that they opened up the top deck. Sadly, however, there were still lots of empty seats on the first tier--whole rows in some cases--that's inexcusable. If you have season tickets, show up or put someone in those seats who wants to show up!
Great atmosphere, great game. Good times all around.

On the Metro after the game, ran into Jim Laise (the WVsports.com writer) and another guy who wrote for their alumni magazine. Ended up chatting all the way to Rosslyn - some of the points we talked about:
1) Jeff Green - he said he's been covering college, and BE basketball for about 10 years, and Green is one of the most impressive freshmen he's seen in that time. Loved his poise both down low and from outside, and thinks he is going to be something really special. Said that while Gay has more potential, Green is by far the BE ROY this year.
2) JT3 - Still could not get over the change in the team, the school and the atmosphere at the Phone Booth that JT3 has brought. He said without a doubt that if he had a vote for COY in the country, he would vote for JT3. He also said that if he doesn't win COY in the BE, there should be an investigation.
3) Brandon - He said that if Brandon continues to mature as he has this year, he becomes a legitimate pro prospect next year. Loved his mix of inside/outside game, and thinks him and Ashanti make an excellent combo.
4) Pittsnogle's Tattoos - I told him that those were the most ridiculous tattoos I've ever seen in my life on such an ugly guy. His response - "Uhh, no comment."
Obviously, nothing that hasn't been talked about on this board, but still, good to hear from other teams and their followers. Our reputation continues to grow with each and every day.

I'm not sure if we have started a topic on an ugly 7 foot inbred white guy's ugly tattoos. Do we even want to? Maybe not a thread, but we've definately discussed how he went from a goofy looking white guy who could shoot to "the guy who's running a meth lab in his parents basement".

Pittsnogle is definitely on the Cherokee parks career path. I can't wait to see what he looks like in about 3 years. Not to mention the alien saucers on the sides of his head.

Okay, I almost put this in one of the replies to my own recap, but since we brought up Kevin Pittsnogle here first: I can't tell this story well enough b/c I only heard it second hand (though I unknowingly experienced part of it firsthand), but either hoyabinx or GUHoya2007 needs to tell the "Kevin Pittsnogle's wife" story from Saturday afternoon if they're reading this thread.

Hhahha, ill tell it, but i must preface it with this: I am southern and love country people, so dont take offense with my colloquial quoting. We were in line waiting for the gate to open and there were about 5 people behind us with #34 WVU jerseys on so I asked "who do we have to worry about today." One girl goes "My bruther Kavin." I say "he is your brother?" Then the blond next to her goes "and hes my HUS-band." I go, "does he start" "Yah he starts, hes the only cinter in tha league that cun shoot a three" I kind of end the conversation because their accents are worse than mine when i go home and I couldnt keep from laughing anymore. Then i realize the entire fricking family is there in another line and they say something to the girls, and the sister responds "i know, we just talking i aint gonna git in a ruckus, you know i am pregnant." So i think, maybe they arent that country because they dont look that bad although their accents are pretty authentic, ill wait to see "kavin" before i pass judgement. --I see pittsnogle. I see a barbwire tattoo on his arm. My buddy points out that he has a tattoo of Jesus praying on his calf. I laugh hysterically for 5 minutes--
