All the pudits I keep hearing are saying that it's Griffin, Thabeet, Rubio in that order at the top of the draft. Anyone have a difference of opinion?

because now we have 10 perimeter players and no banger. I'm fine getting rid of those 3 but bring in someone who can defend the paint. No need to give up the 5th pick too. Feels like too much for parts that are identical to what we already have.

hifi, chad ford loves rubio at 3 but i wouldnt be surprised at all to see him slip. i think he's great (See gold medal game at age 17 matching up against paul and kidd) but i think the thunder may get caught up in the "position-fitting" game, rather than taking the best guy and figuring it out from there. lot of nba guys cant stomach a backcourt with two shaky jumpshots. would love to see the thunder take rubio and sign and trade for dave lee to play the 5 - unfortunately they will end up losing one of their foundation pieces to free agency since they will have made a bunch of nice top picks in a row - but with rubio and lee i think they would be a real force in 10-11.

Nobody Beats the Wiz--when it comes to not knowing what the hell to do. That may be true, but it's only because the TWolves finally got rid of Kevin McHale. I'm intrigued by the Wolves' options (though it's vintage TWolves to have 4 first round picks in a draft that everyone's calling one of the worst ever). This all based off hype, but I'd like to see them move up and get Rubio, if at all possible. Thabeet might not be a bad option if he drops to #5, just because they have a solid low post scorer already in Al Jefferson, so Thabeet can just rebound and play defense. Wouldn't mind seeing them pick up Flynn to run the point either, though the idea of Tyreke Evans seems like a good one too (that may be the Platonic version, not the real one--wouldn't mind hearing some thoughts on Evans' chances of turning into a good NBA point).

I think Evans is being vastly underrated in most mocks. He's got great NBA size, gets to the hoop, draws fouls and his biggest offensive weakness is his jumpshot. That's significant, because that's by far the easiest thing to improve as a pro. You've got like six free hours a day to shoot if you like.
There's some obvious character concerns here, but basketball wise, I think it is crazy I see him past ten in some mocks.

Twolves to trade Rubio? I can't imagine they will keep both he and Flynn.

I actually think it's good for Roy in a way. Hansborough will be under HUGE scrutiny, which will take a lot of pressure off Roy.

Twolves to trade Rubio? I can't imagine they will keep both he and Flynn. And Lawson! (Though, I guess he's going to Denver for Charlotte's first round pick next year, aka a draft that won't suck as much as this one). The only point guards the Timberwolves currently have are Bobby Brown and Sebastian Telfair. Do you really think it's out of the realm of possibility for them to keep both Rubio and Flynn?

Does anyone else think it's weird that ESPN's so-called draft guru, Chad Ford, is not part of tonight's broadcast? Kind of supports what RDF and others have said regarding his analysis.

The Pitt entrants - Young and Blair - seem to be slipping down the board slightly.

I can't believe DeJuan Blair fell that far. I get Sam Young -- but Blair is crazy. People are going to completely regret letting him fall that far.

I cant believe teams passed on BOTH of them, I could understand Young because of his knees, but he fell about 20 spots. That is crazy. Does anyone else think it's weird that ESPN's so-called draft guru, Chad Ford, is not part of tonight's broadcast? Kind of supports what RDF and others have said regarding his analysis. You could see it that way, and i agree that his analysis sucks. But it may have been that he was doing "instant analysis" for espn.com and was apparently "on the phones" all night hearing about draft rumors. It annoys me that Dajuan fell out of the first round, especially to players i have never heard of. But what annoys me even more is that the two players in the draft that annoy me more than any other are now on the two teams that i have any interest in. Maybe T-Hans will take away some attention from Roy, i can see that, but he still bothers me and i dont think he will help the Pacers as much as some of the other players that were available (the worst will be that his faults will only be seen in the indiana press, but his few accomplishments will be all over ESPN the next day). Even worse is BJ Mullens going to the Thunder. He is the worst. Yeah he has size, but i would take Robin Lopez over Mullens. I havent seen anything promising from him at all. He can catch and dunk (although he always puts the ball on the floor first which will allow defenses to destroy him in the NBA), but that is it. Maybe he will prove me wrong and be a solid player, but im not holding my breath.

It was a very bad day for Pitt. I couldn't believe that Young and Blair dropped like that, and I'm particularly ticked that Blair ended up with the Spurs. I totally agree with SF about him. Also agree about Mullens. This guy has stiff written all over him. We'll see.
I was happy for Collison and Taj Gibson. I think NO is the perfect spot for Collison. His biggest problem is that he will never weigh anything close to 200 pounds, and he'll have a real problem guarding the Derrick Rose/Deron Williams type of point guards.
As for Summers, well, to me his placement was no shock. I hope he does well with the Pistons.
Finally, if I were a gm, I would definitely go after Jerel McNeal and Lavance Fields for my summer team. Fields may not fit the prototype for an NBA point guard, but anyone who can have a 7:1 assist to turnover ratio and hit big shots deserves a look.

Simmons sums up Thabeet: "My take on Thabeet: He's either a homeless man's Dikembe Mutombo or a rich man's Keith Closs Jr."
Kind of a weird draft if you ask me (not that you did).

As most of you know, I am really not an "NBA guy," but I have to admit that I pretty much enjoyed the draft coverage last night. Now I know there wasn't a lot of competitive shows on against it, but still. I enjoyed the draft far more than the NFL drafts. I'm sure the shorter time between picks has a lot to do with it, but I did find it an enjoyable way to spend an evening.
I totally agree on Blair. I have already heard several people point out that Blair totally outplayed Thabeet head to head, not once, but twice. I'm not saying he's the better player, but for Thabeet to be the #2 and for Blair to drop down into the second round is perplexing.
Twins are trying to corner the market on guards. They must know something. Let's get in on it.

I am very much satisfied with the Grizzlies draft picks. Excited with Thabeet. Young and Carroll will provide quality bench strength. Starters C-Thabeet WF- Gay PW- Gasol PG- Conley G- Mayo. Not bad for a young team. Will be a play off team in 2 years. Ready to purchase season tickets. Go Grizz!
