For any other DirecTV subscribers, ESPNU is being added to the basic Choice package while ESPN Classic is being moved to the Sports Pack, effective July 1. I suspect this will mean fewer, or no, live Hoya games on ESPN Classic next year. The bad news is target date for ESPNU HD is end of first quarter 2010. Here's the link to the ESPN press release: www.espnmediazone.com/press_releases/2009_05_may/20090519_DirecTVToOfferESPNU.htm. I didn't see anything on DirecTV's site in 30 seconds of looking.

If you are concerned about Hoya games--you would rather have ESPNU then Classic.

If you are concerned about Hoya games--you would rather have ESPNU then Classic. Well to be fair there are plenty of Hoya games on Classic. It's just that most of them are L's.

Yeah, I love Direct TV, but mainly for NFL Sunday Ticket. HD is extra unfortunately. Too bad they don't have Verizon down here. Have to go to MediaCom.

Sunday Ticket would be a welcome addition to Verizon although I do benefit by living in NFC East country (just the wrong part heh).

That NFL package has nothing to do with region or anything similar. It has everything to do with contractual deals. I thought for sure the NFL would not renew it with DirecTV 2 times ago .... much less, the last time. That is the showpiece on the mantle that DirecTV is hanging its hat on. Oh, for the day that hat catches on fire ...
On Edit: oops, almost forgot the actual thread point ...
ESPN Classic could have been an awesome channel, and in my opinion, a very, very popular one. If they would stick to showing truly Classic events from the past and then an occasional "instant classic" that they had the rights to, then I think viewership would skyrocket. THere are a lot of us sports fans out there. Using "Classic" as just another opportunity to show the same nonsense -- _____________ (fill in the blank with your "favorite" nonsense) -- had the polar opposite effect.

i wish they showed old wwf or nwa. instead we get stuck with awa. what a joke. ive had enough of the gagne family to last me a lifetime I never got to watch much of the AWA. It wasn't a player in the south when I was a kid. We did get some Atlantic Coast wrestling where guys like Ricky Steamboat cut their teeth as well as some of the Texas circuit with Bill Watts, the Outlaws (Dusty Rhodes and Dirty Dick Murdoch), the Von Erichs, etc ... But mostly down here, it was Florida Championship Wrestling (a small wing of the NWA) and then a bit later, Georgia Championship Wrestling which was funded by Ted Turner, broadcast on the SuperStation and eventually became WCW. But I do remember the first time I saw then-AWA champ, Nick Bockwinkle. He was friggin hilarious. He was a heel and had this totally condescending demeanor. He was a friggin riot. He didn't "mean to be a bragadoccio ..."

We discovered the joys of Heartland Wrestling when in Dayton for the NCAAs in 2006. www.hwaonline.com/
