For hundreds of years, the seers and wise men of this land have given prophecy of one day in the future, a day that will live in infamy for all of history. On that day, there would exist a song that would simultaneously be the worst and best song ever written. A song that's entirely ridiculous and even annoying, yet a song you can not stop but repeat over and over and over. Forsooth, dear HoyaTalk faithful, that day has arrived. I give you "Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell". I am going to have to hurt you. Badly. This is not an uncommon reaction when I show people this song.

My Try and Stop Us t-shirt from CafePress is getting a little worn and faded, so this seemed like a sound purchase. No impulse shopper, me. ;D

This one's for Redskins fans, football fans in general, and people who dislike deuchery.
Per the SportsBog, go to google classic home and type in "dan snyder is". do not hit return, just wait for suggestions to come up.

Don't know if anyone else has been following The onion's countdown of the Top 10 Stories of the last 4.5 billion years, but it's pretty goddam hilarious: www.theonion.com/content/ourannualyear09The first one has still been my favorite so far: www.theonion.com/content/news/four_or_five_guys_pretty_much"Our research indicates that da Vinci, Michelangelo, Shakespeare, and Galileo basically hoisted the entire intellectual transformation of mankind onto their shoulders while everyone else just sat around being superstitious nimrods," said Sue Viero of the Correr Museum of Art in Venice, Italy. "Here's da Vinci busting his ass to paint such masterpieces as The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa, while some loser like Albrecht Dürer is doing these dinky little woodcuts that are basically worthless." ;D

Thanks Boz. I trust you posted it today because you expect to be too banged up from Thursday night to do so on Friday. Happy New Year.

I dunno, I thought this was somewhat weak, as a fan of Barry's. It's not that a lot of jokes were about Democrats and Obama, it's that they were old jokes about Democrats and Obama. This is Dave Barry, I expect some originality.

The reason I like Dave Barry is not originality. I actually don't think he's all that original, actually.
I like him because he'll lay it to both sides pretty equally,* but his tone is a fun one, not a mean-spirited or partisan one.
As I have said on many occasions, I consider that the mark of a true satirist (the balance, not the soft tone), in the Juvenal, Pope and Swift tradition. Dickens somewhat less so, but he jabbed at what we today would call the left more often than people think.
I wish Jon Stewart was more in that tradition, but his audience practically rebels on him whenever he makes jokes about the left, Obama in particular, but he's been getting better.
*Obviously, this was not a balanced column, but let's be realistic. Not a whole lot of Republicans/conservatives were the newsmakers this year. He definitely laid into W. & co. in previous years' recaps.
I need to add, from an earlier conversation: I wore my "We will kill you in your sleep on Christmas" shirt as my "Christmas" attire to two parties this season. It was a big hit. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to express their personality through cotton (yeah, I can jab at myself too).
