Can someone make sure that St. John's board knows about this thread because I'm pretty sure this one is turning into something classic. This thread is going great places. This thread is an instant classic but, when I think classic, I think about the Charlie Daniels Band. Thanks to whoever dug that up not so long ago.

I withdraw my vote foe Thunderbug or whatever it was for:
The St. Johns Lady Fencers.

I think we need something more representative of Queens. I'm thinking Eddie Murphy. Or maybe a bottle of Soul Glow.

There's a great deal of Rival Reels potential here. The Thunder Bird looks like a chicken with the Shazam symbol. My eight year old took one look and said "They're all bad but the bird is the stupidest."

Wisdom of the ages, JE_III. Say, can I borrow your 8 year old for the check card challenge next year? I tried with an 18 month old this season with no luck (tho' we did get on ESPN apparently, according to the cavalcade of text msgs we got about it).

If it was up to me I would say not the dog or bear, although they have nothing to do with a "Red Storm" (but neither does our bulldog with Hoyas) those two actually are college mascots at a number of schools and wont look dumb on the sidelines. The others wellllll.....not so much.

The HORSE has FINGERS. I don't see how there's any debate here.

Someone on the deadspin thread had the best suggestion: the Hero riding the Horse.

Speaking of mascots, tradition, and all that, I'd like to bring back, "Sgt. Stubbs," to the hilltop.
How many know who he is?

My favorite part of the page is where the authors try to claim that 'Redmen' originally came from the color when its student were doing 'war whoops' and they had a mascot named Chief Blackjack.
Oops. Looks like the P.C. police did a once-over before posting that webpage, but missed a few issues.

Actually, I think Redmen was originally referring to the color. Quite a few teams from that era were basically called by their uniform colors (Red Sox, Reds, White Sox, etc). Obviously it became associated with Native Americans, but it isn't unbelievable.
