Those are all pretty bad. It's kinda like when Stony Brook (school closest to my parent's house) decided to go from "Patriots" to the made up animal "SeaWolves". what minority does "patriots" offend that made them change it?!? That had nothing to do with it. Patriots was also the mascot of the local high school, and they wanted to make a splash as they moved to DI in some sports.

Thunderbird looks like the St. Joseph's Hawk had sex with Testudo.

It's obvious what St. John's should do. This "vote" is a farce. They should gather up all the mascots and have a "to the death" cage match. Or they could just make Halle Berry the mascot. Now that's a Storm mascot I could get behind. Wink wink nudge nudge.

Oh boy, I just discovered the "More Information" tab beneath each option. While all comical, check out this one:
Thunderbird: A mythological spirit of thunder and lightning believed by some Native Americans to take the shape of a great bird - which would be a tribute to St. John's Redmen history. Boasting feathers as long as a canoe, the legendary thunderbird can generate lightning, thunder and great winds by flapping its wings and blinking its eyes.
I mean, just wow. The only thing is the St. John's Manbearpig as an option. Also, the information says birds and bears are being considered because they were revered by Native Americans. Isn't that what they were trying to get away from?
And finally, the St. John's fencer that shows up on the video portion to the right is pretty attractive.

Isn't that what they were trying to get away from? Why don't they just trot out, Nationals-style, three big-headed mascots of Joe Stalin, Chairman Mao and Fidel Castro? They can run around the court at halftime chasing a little miniature Uncle Sam, played by some kid from the stands. That's fun for the whole family! Come on, St. Johns...EMBRACE the Red Storm!! On a side note, manbearpig continues to make me laugh every time I hear the word. If St. John's adopted the manbearpig as their mascot, I would root for them to win every single game every single season except when they play GU (OK, I kind of do that anyway, but manbearpig would make it a lot more fun.)

Hey! The vote has a write-in feature! I just wrote in manbearpig.
The lady fencer is quite attractive.
Finally, what the hell is a thunderhorse? That sounds like something you'd do the morning after a long night at the Tombs...

Judging by his goofy half-wit creepy-man smile, I'm pretty sure the Thunderhorse does you after you black out from a long night at the Tombs.

Has the SJU community never actually seen a horse??? They don't have fingers!!!!!!!! I'm really un-nerved by this....

I think they should make Red Foreman from That 70's Show their mascot. He could roam the sidelines calling Eric Devendorf a dumbass.
Dagmara Wozniak, the awesomely named lady-fencer, looks like Sarah Polley.

While I enjoy manbearpig, I think we need to be realistic. No way a write-in candidate has a shot against this stellar field.
Please let's refocus on Storm Hero, who is nearly as absurd and MBP and, beyond belief, is an actual candidate in this thing.

But once in a while, ya just gotta shoot for the moon and stars. Manbearpig it is.

Can someone make sure that St. John's board knows about this thread because I'm pretty sure this one is turning into something classic.
