Great article on the hoyas, glad monroe is staying, But saying he has a handle like a guard is a bit of a strech.. If he wasnt coming back this year we would be no better that st johns..

His handle may not be quite up to guard level, but the basic point still holds true: he handles the ball much better than 95% of big men. Coupled with his agility, it makes him very difficult to guard for most big men. If you think about it, early in the season he created a number of shots for himself off the dribble, but didn't do much in terms of driving from the top of the key towards the end of the season.
Frankly, I'd love to see him shoot a few more long balls next year and force the defender to come out all the way out against him.

Very nice write-up on Greg and Hoyas... mentions the downside of the current situation but points out the remarkable Upside potential too. Most players make their biggest leap from Frosh to Soph. OF course, we are counting on many "ifs", Greg's development, Freeman's weight loss and finding his game, Chris making a significant jump as an effective PG after his first full season, Sims being able to be a serious contributor after a year in the system and weight room, Hollis having an edge from his early entry, and JT3 pulling a rabbit or two out of his late recruiting efforts. Oh, and the entire team realizing they did a lot better when playing "the system" on BOTH ends of the floor.
OK, if JT3 can pull all of that off, he will DESERVE to be COY!

Ranks him 4th behind Wall, Ed Davis and Derrick Favors: Monroe is the most skilled player on the list. If he can convince NBA scouts that he has a motor and can dominate consistently as a sophomore, he's got the upside of Chris Webber. Hmmm, has Chad been reading Hoyatalk - the Webber comparison came up not that long ago somewhere around here.

This being the day after the anniversari of Orson Welles', "War of the Worlds " broadcast, may I say: We interrupt this particular wool-gathering string theory of college hoops to post a real thing. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/06/AR2009050604134.html It's about Jim Jones. Someone please put it where it needs to be. I don't know how. The man is honesty personified, the greatest of our living b'ball alums.
