With Allen Iverson's selection to this year's all star team it marks 20 consecutive years that a georgetown player has been selected.

Wow! Can someone else do the due diligence on this (don't worry, I believe you BigMike)?! Wonder if UNC can claim the same thing (maybe not over the same 20 year period)?? I know Duke can't!

Wow. That's pretty remarkable. AI proved the doubters wrong this year, and I think he has a few more years of superstar basketball left in his tank, but some Hoyas are going to have to step up to the plate soon to keep that streak alive. Sweets can be a very good player, but I'm not sure he'll ever be the 20-11 guy that will be a perenial all-star. Jeff Green has that kind of potential down the road - I can't imagine that he won't be a very effective NBA player when his Hoya career is over - hopefully 3 years from now.

www.nba.com/history/allstar/allstargame_recaps.htmlA quick glance finds the last Hoya-less all star game was 1985, though in 1986, Ewing was selected, but was a DNP due to injury. UNC misses in at least 1994, as Jordan was off sucking at baseball. I didn't go back further than 1980, since I don't know where most of those guys went to school, and because I'm lazy. It's possible some other school has a comparable streak, but certainly not since 1980. Even better, there are 5 guys involved in keeping it alive - Floyd, Ewing, Deke, Zo, and AI. Who will be next in line?

Who will be next in line? My guess WOULD be Sweets, if only someone would get his butt on the court more often. If Brad Miller can make an All-Star team, Sweets certainly could in the Eastern Conference if given the chance to play. At least that's what I think... he's the man. GO HOYAS!!! EXORCISE THOSE BROOKS BERRY DEMONS!!!

I love Mike, but it's a lot easier to make it as a center than as a forward. Sweets would have to beat out guys like Jermaine O'Neil, Antawn Jamison, and Paul Pierce. If you're a center, you just have to be better than Zygrundus Ilgauskas - not so tall an order.
Heck, maybe Roy will end up there. At the rate he's improving, it's not the most far fetched thought I've had today.

I agree - but two of those three guys are getting on in years. By the time AI goes, they should be gone as well... leaving the door open for Sweets to make a move. That is, of course, if someone will give him some run...

dude i watch sweetney and i just don't think he has the potential to be a perennial all-star - i loved mike at gtown, but he just seems lethargic on the court - i don't know...i hope he blossoms into a dominant forward, but he needs to open his game up...
