I feel like Lic. Are there really no 7 footers out there on Georgetown's radar anywhere? This program has made it's name off of recruiting BIGS who play in the post, and block shots, and rebound. JTIII showed with Roy that he is capable of taking a 7 foot stiff and turning him into an NBA 1st rounder and rookie starter. Given how small we're going to be next year, and the fact that there seem to be no truly huge guys down the pipe, what's up? Where are these guys?
And no, this isn't relevant to anything in particular, but it's the offseason and I'm tired already of discussing DaJuan. To add some spice to discussion, does the Georgetown Defense need a 7 foot shot blocker to function properly?

Does Villanova have a seven footer? No. Louisville? No. Pittsburgh? No. West Virginia? No. Syracuse? No. Notre Dame? No.
You get the point.

But those schools aren't Georgetown. That's MY point. We have to be basically the premiere destination for 7 foot big men. Why aren't we getting any true, center type bigs? (Monroe and Sims both appear to be PFs) The system ran just fine with Roy at center. It didn't work better with Monroe there, even though he's the "perfect" fit for the offense. So you have to think that we're working hard to recruit these bigs. Are we just missing lately?

Connecticut -- Yes North Carolina -- Close enough Michigan State -- how tall is Goran whatshisname? North Carolina - close enough? Hansborough is 6'8". How is that close enough? We have 3 players on the current roster taller than that. Look around ALL of college basketball. How many quality 7 footers are there? Its Thabeet... and everyone else. Jordan Hill of Arizona comes close, but he's only about 6'10". There are NO quality 7 footers that are out there. Centers in the college game are 6'9-6'10. For the love of god, stop talking about how we need a 7 footer. We need someone who can play physical in the post and can rebound. I don't a flying hoot if that person is 6'8 or 7'8.

We need a big man more than ever... not hearing good things about Monroe's chances of returning.

I wouldn't say there are NO good 7 footers. It's just that they are hard to find. If you're 7 feet or bigger and you can walk and chew gum, NBA scouts are all over you. So, 7 footers in college usually either don't last long or have some deficiency that keeps them from jumping to the league (most often they are slow/lumbering). And as jgalt points out, there just aren't that many human beings bigger than 7 feet. But I agree that we need some more size. I don't care if you are 6'8 or 7'5, if you can get it done that's what counts. I'd be thrilled right now with a 6'8 banger who gobbles up rebounds and pushes people around a little bit. But I see what the original poster means to some extent. This is Georgetown. Ewing, Morning, Mutombo, Hibbert, Harrington, etc. etc. For a long time we were "Big Man U" and any big guy in the country would have wanted to play for us. And now, we are staring at the prospect of having Julian Vaughn as our starting center... for the next 2 years. And having absolutely 0 true bigs behind him. No offense to Julian, who I think is a good backup PF/C at the Big East level. But he didn't blow anybody away at FSU and didn't show enough to warrant a starting spot on a perrenial Big East power. But, we're a Greg Monroe lotto guarantee away from it being a reality. And that's.... a little disappointing, eye-opening, puzzling, etc. The truth, I guess is that Riley was supposed to be the guy you're talking about. Sure he is a little under 7 feet but he is a true center and at 6'10+ he'd be bigger than most of the guys he'd match up against. But obviously, it didn't pan out. And I think if Greg leaves, we're gonna be caught with our pants down, so to speak. Not sure what the longterm plan was, but I'm pretty sure Vaughn running unopposed at the 5 spot wasn't it. I don't think we'll get a true big man in 2009. Best we can hope for is LW, who potentially plays a good amount of minutes at PF meaning Henry can swing over to 5. And to be honest, we really don't seem to have any options at the 5 spot in 2010 either. We've got Lubick who is 6'8 and a 4, and he will help for sure. But he isn't necessarily the type of guy who is going to come in and dominate as a freshman. More of a contributor off the bench type, as a freshman. So, yea, I think the future of the 5 spot at Georgetown is shaky at best. But you never know. Maybe Greg stays another year. Maybe Henry bulks up, and moves over to the 5 when Greg leaves with LW or Nate at the 4. Maybe it'll be ok, who knows. For now thats all we can hope for, and hope that III and staff keep working hard on the trail to find big guys who will succeed at Georgetown and further the legacy. For those who love 7 footers though, here are a few to keep an eye on for 2011, all of whom have visited (and all of whom should reach 7 feet by the time they start college): w3.nbebasketball.com/index.php/introducing-matt-gorski/georgetown.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=77198insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=77141&action&actionn

1427hoya...
i agree with you. we might not be able to field a team next year. this COULD be just the start of something not so good. why didn't we go after some other players when there were better ones available? i have a bad feeling about all of this. it's almost like next year is a wash already
