I think one reason there's debate of who handled the last few minutes worse is because these two teams aren't all that good. This was the regional final of a weak bracket in a weak year and both Pitt and 'Nova were fortunate to be paired against Xavier and Duke (two even more flawed teams) in the Sweet 16. Hats off to both for taking advantage of the opportunity and playing with intensity, but I didn't think those were even the two best Pitt or Villanova teams of the last 5 years.
The lack of depth in this tournament has been pretty striking.

Attn: Michigan St. fans
Your team is one game from the Final Four. How about making the 4 hour drive from East Lansing and supporting your team. What a pathetic showing.
Gus Johnson calling this game makes this a mortal lock that it will come down to the final one or two possessions. I'm excited.

gus johnson calling a game makes me immediately go from 6 to 12. unfortunately louisville stopped caring in the 2nd half and now its game over. lack of hustle and settling for jumpers all half. state deserves to win this

Who woulda thunk Nova and UCONN would get into the Final Four before Pitt and Louisville? Not me.

Who woulda thunk Nova and UCONN would get into the Final Four before Pitt and Louisville? Not me. Not really Ed. Louisville and Pitt were not invincible and had weaknesses. out of all 4 teams, Louisville was the weakest. the only surprise that DID make it to me, was Villanova. But, they played Pitt to get in, so.... UCONN was the only Final Four caliber team from the Big East, that should have been there.

I'd be furious if I were a Louisville fan---with the Final Four on the line--your team looked as if this was a Red/White scrimmage in October. Embarrassing.
Tom Izzo is one helluva coach and he OWNED Pitino.
2 questions for the board:
1. Why is CBS acting like Spartans just upset '85 Hoyas/'91 UNLV with this win? I know Louisville was #1 seed in NCAA's--but it's not that big of an upset in an average year for CBB.
2. Was Samardo Samuels performance the most GUTLESS/AWFUL of any hyped player ever in a big game? WOW-did that suck. I remember being upset that Jeff was hesitant in Final Four loss--but Samuels was beyond SUCKAGE--he was worst player on court.

L'ville really played poorly down the stretch. I think you are right, Euro, L'ville stopped caring. Really looked pathetic.
And RDF, I forgot about that bad, bad play going for the home run ball. I guess Reynolds play made me forget it, but they should not have needed that play.

I had Louisville winning in my pool and that was enough for me to be furious at their performance. Not sure how the real Louisville fans must feel. Michigan St. just wouldn't turn it over much and as soon as they dictated a half-court game, Louisville went very meekly into that good night. It's always tough to lose, but Michigan St. just took Louisville's lunch money today.

Both Hansborough and Griffin have a foul by the 1st TV timeout. Guess that was to be expected since their match up was hyped up so much and college basketball fans were looking forward to it.

"Here's the thing--I had to watch the game on tape, and I basically had the result blown for me"
My bad, I had been drinking and didn't think through that text message clearly.
And I hate to say it but UNC is looking really good right now. Its really the first time since 05 that they are actually playing good D and now that they are running things through Lawson instead of Hansbrough they are actually watchable.
Since Sparty is the least hateable of the teams left, I'll be rooting for them.

Boring games today.
I hope MSU and Fake Rod Strickland's teams meet up in the Finals.

That was a dreadful performance by Louisville yesterday. At halftime, I was fully confident that they would win, because of the way they turned up their defense in the second half in so many games this year. But it didn't work yesterday. Michigan State kept finding the open man for 15-17 foot jumpers. I guess Tom Izzo doesn't think those are low percentage shots. Agree with RDF about Samuels. Wow, was he terrible yesterday. This can happen to freshmen on occasion in big games. To say that Louisville wasn't a legitimate final four team because they were flawed is silly. This is college basketball. What team isn't flawed in some respect? It just comes down to whichever team plays well enough to win 6 straight games. Louisville was certainly capable of that, and if they played MSU again, I wouldn't be at all surprised by a different result.
