I wont!!! check out the "why aren't we ranked" thread. When you see that Georgia Tech got 116 votes and that we only have 5 more votes than Maryland you should realize that there's a problem.

We did make a pretty good move, from getting no votes, in a week where we beat 2 of the bottom rung teams in the league. However, I do have 2 complaints - How could VERMONT be ahead of us, playing in the weak league that they do - and how in the world can Villanova move UP 2 spots when their only win was over the worst team in the league??? Something really fishy there.

Is it that bad to spell out bull- - - -? Are there a lot of 5-10 year olds reading this board? I know its not particularly nice language but its also not that bad. I mean, not getting ranked was definitely BS!
edit-- Dan, I just heard them say the bad word on TV!!!

GUHoya, Clearly you get worked up over this stuff. But surely by now you should have realized that perception lags reality... or if you believe that perception IS reality, then perception lags results. What am I talking about? A team that was ranked highly (e.g GTech, PITT, others) will fall down the polls slower than their losses and records might indicate. Concurrently a team on the rise -- like GU -- will be recognized more slowly. Why? It is human nature. Who votes in these things? SPorts writers and coaches. Those guys are far too busy with their own stories, games, conferences, to research or be aware of everything that is going on elsewhere. Unless a 'Nova obliterates a Kansas on national TV... a steady stream of solid wins is not going to rise to the level of awareness necessary to change enough opinions to be reflected in the polls that quickly. In this case, the RPI - flawed as it may be -- is often better as it is simply a computer program based on results. (OK, so I don't get PACIFIC either!) But IMHO, there's no need to worry about this. We are working our way up. We have a coach who is getting recognized nationally. We have a freshman who has been BE Rookie of the Week four times and national ROW once. We have beaten almost everyone we have been expected to beat (Except ORal Roberts) and our only other losses were to top teams. In addition, we have pulled off some remarkable upsets, especially on the road. But we still need that big upset -- BC, Cuse -- to get that recognition level up higher. We are getting there. It will happen.

First off, can anybody post a link? The polls on ESPN.com and other places haven't been updated yet. I was actually surprised that we got 17 votes in the AP poll after receiving none the week before. All we did was beat up (by just 10 and 5 points respectively) on two bottom feeders in the Big East. I don't see this as "props" really, but it's something. 007, we definitely shouldn't be ranked right now. It'll take a continuing nice string of victories plus most likely a win over Notre Dame, Villanova, or UConn to push us over the top. Not that I really care, it would cool to be ranked but tournament position is far more important than some meaningless polls right now. And Nova moving up two spots after losing to #20 UConn then beating 0-8 Providence? Weird (Edit: Agree with pretty much everything SirSaxa said in above post. Good analysis.)

There are plenty of GU faculty, staff, students, and alumni that read this board. Many of them are women. You should keep that in mind when you post. For the record, you did not post 'BS', you posted something else and that is what I edited.

Actually, in this week's AP poll 17 votes translates (if I counted right, and I've only got 10 fingers) into a rank of 32. Since the Hoyas' current RPI is 33, that matches up pretty well. Since 65 teams make the Tournament, I would be happy with 32 or 33.

pacific and vermont both deserve props over us right now b/c they have winning streaks of 13 and 15 games. i agree the big west and america east are not nearly as strong as BE, but both teams were impressive in non-conference play and have RPI's better than ours. Pacific also beat a BE team in the 1st round last yr (Prov) and Vermont is a team no one wants to play in the tourney this year (losing by two at Kansas will scare people).
Its not about polls its about making the Big Dance.

As much as I think the Hoyas are playing like a "top 25" team should play, i don't think wins against the slumping Scarlet Knights and St. Johns are going to earn us the respect, we think we deserve

Makes the game-tying shot against SU that much more critical. Damn Brandon and his huge feet.

Steady progress is what we need to continue making. Everything else will take care of itself.

we deserve some respect...it is very tough for us to get into the top 25 though because of where we started off the season way down near the bottom. Once we take care of business on Saturday. We shall get some respect.

I don't think taking care of business on saturday is good enough. Obviously the voters for the top 25 aren't the most intellegent basketball fans. If we are able to hold off WV and couple that with a quality win over say UConn, then we can talk.
We've played like a top 25 caliber team, in my opinion, certainly better than Georgia Tech. But, for the time being, I guess I'm alright with flying under the radar.
Go Hoyas!
