I think it is pretty clear that at this point, this team is not getting any better this season, so playing an extra game or two won't have a heck of a lot of benefit. Losing to a mediocre (or worse) team in the first or second round would leave even more of a sour taste. I'm not advocating turning down the bid, but I can't think of anything to be optimistic about.

the only positive i can see out of the nit is the chances of losing to a team that later has their participation vacated
at that point we can look forward to an email series between fan of the game and some know nothings associated with the nit
the final ruling will probably take a year or so but the email chain will be well worth it

Road trips? It's more or less a given we won't host a home game at MCI. We hosted one at McDonough a few years back (Cal State-Fullerton), but I'm not sure the odds of that happening again are high.

It might depend on the date and availability - then again, ESPN won't want to show a game with 1,300 people in an NBA arena.

One guy who needs to play more during the NIT is Sims. It is inexcusable that he has been getting so little run when the improvement in his game from the OOC schedule to now has been as significant as it is. As someone I want starting next year (taking Sapp/Nikita's spot), assuming that both Dajuan and Greg come back, he's one guy that will really determine how far we go next year. Anything that will help to continue his development would be something I'd be for.

What can we expect from the NIT? mediocrity, isnt that how it is every year.
OH!! you mean from this team, probably mediocrity and a loss to a horrible school probably allowing UMD to secure a program changing NIT Championship

Does it take two days to set up for a circus? The 17th looks like an open date.
Otherwise, there's always McDonough. It might even sell out.

We can expect a second-round game vs. George Mason at the Patriot Center - winner gets exclusive rights to ads in the Metro system!

Do we have to be .500 or over .500 to make the NIT?
Either way I don't know that we'll be given the option of a home game even if we had an arena available. There are likely to be 15 teams who don't make the NCAA tournament or would be deemed better seeds than us.
As for the point of playing in it, from a fan's perspective I always like watching Georgetown games. In person would be great, but on TV just as well. Some people realized we weren't an NCAA tourney team a month ago, others didn't figure it out until last night, but all of us will quickly focus on doing our best in the NIT once it starts. I'm sure going back and reading this board four years ago after the NIT began would validate that.
