Interview with Pitino....they asked him what was wrong with Gtown...
He said "they're young"
said that the young players wear out physically and mentally throughout the season. He said look what's going to happen next year with Marquette, L'ville, Pitt etc when all their upperclassmen leave
just thought it was interesting to hear his perspective on the issue and a good way to look at next season as well

It's true. We all got hiped up when they won early and reset our expectations too high for this team

i enjoyed and appreciated the comment. it's a curious opinion i'd forgotten, namely young'uns are not used to the 30+game season, and wear out quickly.

I like Pitino. That was a really nice, complete BS answer to get out of a question.

It makes sense. Whatever you think of the guy (possible ulterior motive: making his own team look good after losing), he has been very complimentary of our teams and program since joining the conference.

Before the season started, how many people thought we'd go 0-4 against Cincy (2x), WVU and Seton Hall? That is where the season went pear shaped. hm

I wouldn't have expected 0-4 against those teams but I absolutely would have expected 0-2 against UConn and Memphis. You always have some unexpected wins and unexpected losses. At the end of the day we have proven to be worse than expected, but not as much worse as a lot of people suggest.
Back on topic, Pitino also seemed clear-eyed about how to play Blair. If you don't get him to foul early, it's going to be a long and unpleasant night; if you do, you've got a chance.

Any one of us would trade an NIT berth this year for a NCAA title next year.

Who's coming in to help with rebounding, defense, etc...?

That's why you can be surprised by getting at least one win against the Memphis, UConn, Pitt, Louisville, MU (2x) of the world. Even though it was one of our high points, I would gladly give back the UConn win for even a 3-1 record against the dregs/peers (WVU, Cincy, SHU). That would leave us just needing to beat SJU and Depaul for a likely NCAA berth. With our SOS, RPI and good wins, Nova and BET would be purely seeding. Enough mental masterbation though; I look forward to watching the boys play live in the BET. If the seeding works out and field breaks right - so that we avoid playing Uconn, Pitt, Louis and MU - who knows? hm

Just remember that it is pretty certain that to win the BET we'll have to win 5 games in 5 days. That would be tough against any level of competition but against the Big East this year? Nearly impossible...
Here's to hope...

Who's coming in to help with rebounding, defense, etc...? Coach Perry McDonald and Coach Junkyard Dog. Seriously, though, not sure about rebounding, but I do believe this will be a better defensive team next year, with everyone having gone through the wringer in arguably the toughest year to play defense in the history of the BE conference.

Nearly impossible... Here's to hope... The only way to make it to the NCAA is to win the BET. To win the BET, we would need to win 5 straight. But in the ten BE games since the Duke game, we have won only 2 (and they were against the doormats). Not that I have finally given up all hope or anything...

Who's coming in to help with rebounding, defense, etc...? Right. Since Monroe has peaked after 20 games at the collegiate level and has displayed no ability to improve, clearly he won't become a better rebounder, shot blocker and defender. Also, Vaughn simply can't improve in those areas after getting a full season in III's system under his belt. Plus, since Sims has already received all the playing time he would need to establish and improve those skill sets, he has no upside left. Nikita has now started 4-5 games so, at this point, it's entirely reasonable to assume that, at 6'8", he won't make any strides whatsoever at improving his strength and lateral quickness to better defend his position and facilitate an increase in his rebounds and blocked shots. And clearly Summers lacks the physical ability to defend his position so it's probably a waste of time to expect Summers to improve his rebounding and shot blocking ability, even though he has improved in both of those areas each season. Well said. I mean, since players don't evolve and improve in this system (certainly Green, Hibbert, Wallace and Ewing, Jr. left Georgetown at exactly the same skill level at which they entered Georgetown) we're really screwed. Good point.

Thank you, Mr. Obvious.
So, other than gaining Hollis and losing Sapp, you don't think we need anyone else next year "to help with rebounding, defense, etc...?"

It's Mr. Healy.
Whatever. We can cry about not having Hibbert or someone like Thabeet or Blair on the squad. That's pointless.
I will take a front court of 6'11" freshman Monroe, 6'11" freshman Sims, 6'10" first year in the system player Vaughn, 6'8" essentially first year player Mescheriakov and 6'8" Summers. They will improve. Their rebounding, shot blocking and defending will improve.
You're the JJ Redick of this board. One dimensional. You stand way outside and hoist bombs from deep. That's all you've got. That's your game. One dimensional players are weak.

Are you saying that no one else here feels like we need to get at least one more recruit for next year "to help with rebounding, defense, etc..." That's a bomb to you? Is that what you're saying? Is "whatever" your answer? Wow, that's very dimensional! If I'm JJ Redick, you're Paulus, a fumbling, smack-the-court flopper.
