I gave Ashanti props by predicting a triple double against SHU last week. That was more my way of saying I think he deserves more credit than he's getting. He's stepped up and played smart in our big games / close wins this season.
Hoya Saxa!

I just can't get over the improvement and poise shown by these guys. A coach can be transformative. JTIII is going to get coach of the year in the BE barring a collapse.

At this point I have no doubt that -- aside from AI -- Ashanti is the best Hoya point guard we've seen in the last 15 years.

I really think that he should be more agressive on offense. The only times that he really seemed to be looking to score were this game and the Pitt game. I think he can be a good weapon and get maybe 13-15 ppg. Either way, he really has come along well this year.
Go Hoyas!

Unfortunately that is not a bold claim -- particularly b/c Braswell was never really a point.

Might I add that Ashanti has been a big contributor all year. It's just nice to see him put up points when the team needs him to...and didn't we get Ashanti when NM fired its coach?

Yup. AC committed to NM, but got out of his LOI when their coach got fired. So he came to join his buddy, Brandon, on the hilltop. Definitely a great break for us.
Ashanti looked great last night. And he got his points in a lot of different ways while playing within the offense. The improvement in his shooting percentage from last year is phenomenal.

I have and always will be a HUGE AC fan. I admit, at times, I may have had more enthusiasm for him than his play warranted, but that was in part because AC was the constant source of unmerited abuse (often the brunt of criticism on this board, a la Ray Ray).
I had faith in AC, not because I just liked him, but because of something I saw. Just like all those Matt Causey fans out there (I liked Causey too), I was basing my judgement on his skill set, not simply because he had one breakout game.
As I said before, and I'll say it again, AC has a better handle and better court vision than any other Hoya on this team, or any Hoya team since the brief days of Kenny Brunner.
There were many out there who thought that Causey would start over Cook, or that Bethel and/or Hunter would have contributed more if they had stayed, but I repeatedly claimed that when all was set and done, Cook would prove to be the superior player of the four. I had faith in him and am glad that he has lived up to that and believe he will prove to be an even more special player come the end of this season and next year as we push towards the Elite Eight or Final Four!
What it comes down to is that despite occasional bad decision making, Cook has the raw ability to dribble, drive and shoot, as well as that 6th sense that can't often be taught to basketball players, leading to plays such as those made against 'Nova and Notre Dame, among others...
Now that he has been married with the disciplined, yet confidence-instilling, JT III, the sky is really the limit. Ashanti Cook - you are my boy!
LET'S GO HOYAS!!! WIPE OUT WEST VIRGINIA!
