I figure that I'll start this early. We should have updated brackets on Monday afternoon. Anyway, RealTimeRpi has us projected as an RPI of 33, with the win against Rutgers. We are very close to the 32 spot, and I figure we get an at-large over some of the teams ahead of us due to SOS. I'm looking at Old Dominion, specifically. www.realtimerpi.com/rpi_Men.html

Lunardi was just on (after the SU-ND game on College Gamenight) talking up the BE as likely to have 7 teams in the tournament and the "top 4 as near locks at this point"...
Hoyas listed as one of Lunardi's "risers" - "nobody talks about them but JTIII has to be the leading candidate for National COY at this point"

Our current RPI is down to 36 as of this morning. Just playing Rutgers and SHU killed us.
Our projected RPI is still #46 and that assumes 11-5 in the Big East. Our SOS gets beat down as we play WV, St. John's and Prov down the stretch. Unfortunate, but just reality.
I'm not saying we're not going to make it, but we're going to be on the bubble till the end. We just need to keep taking care of business and get a good seed in the Big East.

I'm worried about our project RPI and bubble status, too, but only if we're 9-7 or 10-6.
Even with an RPI near 50, 11-5 in the Big East will get us in. Mark it down.

If we finish 11-5 we are in for sure. 10-6, maybe But in either scenario, a win or two in the BE tourney would help as well.
THe committe also takes road wins into consideration, and we have them at PITT and 'Nova among others.
The other thing the committee takes into consideration is how a team is playing at the end of the season, so we need to keep up this amazing performance.

With three weeks to go about ten teams aren't "bubble." The "new RPI" has created more anomalies as well. Raise your hand if you think 11-8, 3-7 Oregon makes it right now because of a 44 RPI ranking. Alright, how about #38 Ball State at 11-6, 7-3 with a 3-6 road record and a 3-5 Top 100 mark?
Speaking of bubble, UVA is bouncing right now at and RPI ranking of #52. Got to be happy about that.
I think the new RPI will have to be used as the original RPI was intended to be used-as a rough guide. If Oregon got a nod over Pitt right now because of a higher RPI, I think there would be some selection committee members fearing for their lives at the hands of fans and press alike.
No reason to worry about the RPI. Everyone is spooked by 2002, but I think the situations aren't analogous especially under the new system.
Hoya wins are much more exciting to think about than losses by Howard's opponents anyway. Go Howard's opponents! Go Hoyas!
PS: Just realized we need to cheer for Howard's FORMER opponents because if they're future opponents they could beat Howard which is bad, but if they're former opponents they can beat other teams which is good, right?
So go Howard's former opponents!
