Vitale gave credit to the Big East for going 6-1 against such powerhouses as Clemson, NC State, Virginia Tech, and UVA. He then rightly pointed out that despite the BE's dominance over those teams, none of them have played any of the top teams. Nobody's played UNC (yet), Duke, the Twerps, G'tech, Wake, etc. His verdict: "the 6-1 record is a very misleading stat." All we need is a UConn upset of UNC, a St. John's win over Dike, and a tourney win and he'll have to eat his words. ..but untill then, I'll be busy worshipping my Vitale Shrine for his infinite wisdom. I couldn't agree with the guy more.

God I hate that argument. I hate Vitale. All these ACC idiots are making the same argument to me about us not beating anybody good in the ACC, but who have we put up against them? The Johnnies have 2 of the wins, and PROVIDENCE has 2 of the wins. Prov "Winless in the Big East" idence. It's not like we're sending Cuse and UConn up against Va Tech and Clemson here.
Along the same lines, how great is it that UVA beat NC State tonight fresh off their shillacking by Providence. The same NC State who was supposed to be good in the ACC.
Yes the ACC is better at the top than we are, but the BE is a better conference overall. Hands down.

To be fair, Prov-"Winless in the Big East"-idence beat Vir-"One win in the ACC"-ginia.
Well now two wins, but...eh. Who cares? Next year, the debate is over. Let them have their arguments now.

Well if that statistic is misleading, how do you deal with the fact that the last two NCAA championships came from the Big East.
How about this statistic?
2-0; the Big East record against the ACC in last year's Final Four.
Vitale didn't care to deal with that one. For cryin' out loud all he did was gush over Duke in the SU/ND game.
It makes me think that he only does that because he doesn't know enough about the teams on the floor in front of him, so he talks about what he knows.

That's a good point, NJ -- he does so many ACC games these days that when they send him off to do another conference, he skips doing homework and instead just prattles on about the games he's seen already. Which isn't exactly what you want in a "color guy" who's supposed to be giving you extra insights into the game you're CURRENTLY WATCHING.

I know it sounds like beating a dead horse but Vitale has become nothing more than a ranking committee.
He must have said 10 times that Warrick is the player of the year in the BE. He never explained why it would be Warrick over Craig Smith (or anyone else). He didn't compare their stats too much.
Did manage to get in that J.J. Reddick was the best "second guard in America." I don't know what a "second guard" is. If presume he meant 2 guard. Still don't know what that added to the game we were actually watching.
It just makes no sense to me that Vitale does a game when he knows virtually nothing about the players on the floor. I will give him credit that he did know that 50 busses came from Scranton to watch McNamara. They must have told us 20 times.
When your "color guy" does nothing more than advocate for individual awards, something is severely lacking.
