Play Jessie Sapp. When he gets consistent minutes without being yanked every time out, good things have happened. Did I mention the team plays well when he runs the offense?? (not a knock on Wright)

The team plays well when he lets Wright run the offense. The biggest difference I have seen over the last few games with him is he is giving Wright full control of the point guard duties. That has benifited both him and the entire team, imo.

The team plays well when he lets Wright run the offense. Totally agree Sleepy. Team plays BETTER when Chris runs things. But tonight, jessie and Chris teamed up well. Very well. Glad to see them back on the same page. All that other stuff is now officially in the past. Jessie can and will play a very important role off the bench -- just like Pat. Jr and DJ Owens.

This game has the elements to be an epic. Marquette is an excellent team. With the '84 team in the house, plenty of alums in town, Hoya players and fans alike should be ready to rock. Just win.

We REALLY need the students to be out and in fine form on Sat. If anyone from Hoya Blue is on this board...you guys need to step it up and really promote this game on Sat. The 2pm start should give the students a little more drinking time which will be nice!

We're better than they are. I don't care what rankings or SF's stats or anything says, we're better than they are. We've been in a long and painful funk, but we're better than they are. At home in an enormous game, if we bring it, we'll win.

I beg to differ. Chris has been in control of the point all season. Sapp has finally been getting more opportunities to run the point and stay in the game these last two games. As for coming off the bench, you must be kidding me. Sapp should not be on the bench and he is playing better because he is not being taken out of the game every two minutes (or kept on the bench all game). His replacement in the starting five did not deserve that promotion. I cannot sign onto that belief. However, a win is a win, so that probably matters most.

Chris HASN'T been in control of the point all season. It was always kind of a power struggle/confusion of who should be running the offense between Sapp and Wright. Those lines were unblurred Saturday when Wright started at point guard and ever since then Sapp has been defferring pg duties to him when they are in together, when before he would take it up himself and players always had to make a decision to outlet it to Wright or Sapp. Honestly I think Sapp should remain on the bench. Even if it just a coincidence that his play has picked up now that hes out of the starting line-up, there is no real reason to start him. We have been getting off to good starts anyways.

Both papers mentioned Sapp coming in and hitting two consecutive THREES in the first half when the Hoyas were ahead only 15-13 about 10 minutes into the game, but neither mentioned it was Chris Wright who got the assist on those two shots (@ 7:01 and 6:31)
And, neither paper mentioned that shortly before that, Jessie got an assist on Chris Wright's Three ball (@ 9:39).
Sapp and Wright are playing together now better than they have in weeks. That seems to be the key factor... not whether Jessie starts. Sapp shared responsibility with Jon Wallace, but that wasn't working with Jessie and Chris. Now, it has been straightened out and its working.
Let's see how these guys can play -- at home, in front of a big, pro-Hoya crowd and the 1984 National Championship team -- against a Top-10 opponent. Should be a GREAT game!

keep sapp coming off the bench. he provides a ewing like spark. nikita played pretty well last game against them, plus i think his length gives teams problems defensively. if we avoid the 10 or 12 point runs against us, i think we'll be ok.

nikta needs to provide something to justify his starting. i'd rather see sapp start on saturday since marquette is such a guard oriented team and sapp has seen these guys a number of times.
can the hoyas contain the triumvirate of mcneal, matthews and james? all 3 are playing terrific ball and this game will be quite a challenge. the hoyas need to play their best perimeter d of the season. i would like to see clark check mcneal for a good part of saturday as his length and athleticsm should be a good matchup.

A little confidence goes a LONG way, and it looks like we may have some finally. Seems like JTIII may have talked to Jessie and Chris, has got them both on the same page. They can absolutely work together. And as long as we are playing well, I would expect Jessie to be coming off the bench early, to give us a spark and to keep the mojo going.

Does the coaching staff have any idea who will play and for how many minutes and with which teammates? Even in the win last night, JTIII seems totally unconvinced about his lineup decisions. If there is a method to his constant tinkering, somebody please explain. It didn't matter last night, it will matter this weekend if he doesn't have a good plan. One would think that Marquette matchups would favor Sims and/or Vaughn getting solid time to create an advantage in the frontcourt. My guess: Wattad will see a lot of action for no apparent reason.
After watching him the past two years (kenner, preseason, etc.), I did think Nikita would be a starter by his junior year ... for American University.

Sims/Vaughn aren't good enough to create favorable match ups for us against Marquette. They really don't add enough offensively / on the boards to offset the problems they'll have defensively.

agreed if it aint broke don't fix it...nikkita sets the tone because we need a glue guy to make the extra pass crash for boards and run the offense.....He is not always looking for his shot. (but please start making some damn three's they were so ugly and flat yesterday yeeeeesshhh). We have enough scorers starting. I think Jessie does much better coming off the bench we need that spark and he is giving it to us. Besides it really only matters who is in there the most minutes and who is there when it's getting down to crunch time. who was in at the end vs cuse? jessie. I think it's pretty clear that this lineup should be stuck with. anyone who says otherwise isn't getting it. it really doesn't matter who starts

Look, you can't deny the mojo improvement since the starting lineup change was made. The team has played markedly better in both games since the switch. Right now, it looks totally psychological, as Nikita hasn't given us much, at least scoring-wise. But it HAS worked, so there's no reason to change back now.
That said, with Marquette's guards, Sapp is going to be a HUGE factor in Saturday's game and I think will end up getting starter-type minutes. It's pretty clear that he's not happy with the move to sixth man (who would be?) but he needs to act like a CAPTAIN and suck it up for the good of this team - he has almost always come up big at crucial times during his Hoya career, and that's what he needs to do right now, even if it doesn't mean hitting the big three anymore.
Anyone else notice that JT3 seemed to be going out of his way to greet Sapp when he came out of the game each time? I think he's trying to buck him up and make him realize that he needs to act like the only senior on the team and demonstrate the type of selflessness that made this a Final Four program two years ago.

Despite being slow-footed and inconsistent offensively, Nikita bangs - I like the fact that he goes after every loose ball, every rebound, with fire. That is something this team needs.
The key to this game is CWright. He has been playing inspired ball the past two games and I think JTIII just needs to let him do his thing. I only ask that he doesn't leave his feet on drives b/c then he gets stuck having to dish the ball while in the air and it often leads to a turnover.
Jason Clark needs to PROTECT THE BALL.
If we do a good (not great) job staying in front of their guards on Saturday, we win.
