Let's get everybody on the record - who thinks the Hoyas jump up off the mat and make this season respectable, who thinks they continue to swirl down the tidey bowl, and who thinks they just limp along until the season's finally over in some half-full road NIT gym?
Here's how I think it will go (warning: unfounded optimism ahead):
@ Syr - Loss. We just don't play well up there anyway, and with this young team in such a hostile atmosphere facing a desperate team... I don't see it. But all is not lost, because...
@ USF - Win. Hoyas finally show some heart and get a second (!) road win on the season. Some people on here call it an upset.
Marquette - Win. The home crowd makes a difference, and something clicks. We beat Marquette by 10+, and suddenly they're the team headed toward a swoon. Marquette stumbles out of a Wednesday BET bye as they hit the brutal part of their schedule.
Louisville - Win. And here's the Big Upset. Riding the wave of Saturday's win, the Hoyas gut out a win over the Cardinals. Rick Pitino's kid cries in the stands. Louisville is a better team, but not tonight.
@ Villanova - Loss. 'Nova is an experienced team playing very well. They win a game they should.
@ St. John's - Win. Hoyas right the ship and come up big at MSG.
DePaul - Win. Jessie Sapp ends his career on the appropriate note.
That's a 5-2 home stretch, putting us at 9-9 with four wins on the season over very high caliber teams and no losses to teams outside the RPI top 100. That puts us in the NCAAs - and I haven't even gotten to our surprising BET run!
Sue me for optimism, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You know, that is exactly how i would call it, too. I am much more confident that we will beat Lville and Marq than I am on the road at Syracuse. I am getting ahead of myself, but I am hoping Big Monday hurts a Lville squad that runs and presses so much. I think that is our big upset, too.

Pass some of that stuff this way.

Yep. 5-2 the rest of the season. I like it. I'm hungry.

I'm in for that but we win @ cuse as well 6-1 baby, 10-8 in the BE, Another BET, and at least a SW16 appearance as the team that Beat Uconn, and Syracuse re-emerges! Edited negativity. Season's not over. I think at worst we can get to 8-10 and win 2 in the BET to get us into the NCAA's. I'm spoiled I can't go back to the NIT. NCAA or bust!

I can't even begin to guess at the rest of the season except for this: if after a week to prepare for our most hated rival, we can't bring our A game and a hell of a lot of fire, no way will we win enough games down the stretch to get into the tourney.
If they want a shot at the NCAA, it has to start Saturday. Because if traveling to upstate NY doesn't get these guys going, nothing will.

I will never use the we're young excuse for our current situation. In the last several years teams have have been led to the final four by freshman... so that being said, in my opinion our finish to this year has nothing to do with our team being "young"- we have enough players with experience to compete.
SU- win s.fla- win marquette-loss lous-loss nova-loss st. johns-win depaul-win

Also I'm not sure and don't have time to look it up, but how many teams that were lead by young players had just lost basically 7 rotaion players from the year before(including Sapp here)? Its not just that we are young, its that we are young and a new team. Thats honestly our biggest problem in our opinion. If Sapp ever comes back, than we will be a different team, but I'm not holding by breath that thats going to happen.

This team has been so hard to predict this season, but here goes:
Scenario 1. Nothing changes, Hoyas finish 3-4 L @ 'Cuse W @ USF L v. MQ L v. Lville L @ 'Nova W @ SJU W v. DeP
Scenario 2. Jessie finds the Onions, Hoyas finish 4-3 Same as Scenario 1, but W @' Cuse
Scenario 3. DaJuan steps it up too, Hoyas finish 5-2 Same as Scenario 2, but W v. MQ
Scenario 4. Onions, Charm City Nuttage, Austin starts drinking coffee (passes get crisper, jumpers jumpier), Hoyas finish 6-1. Same as Scenario 3., but W v. Lville.
Scenario 5. It ALL comes together: onions, nuttage, coffee, plus BelarusBomber, Omar, etc., Hoyas finish 7-0 :-) Welcome to MEGAFANLAND!!!
Scenario 6. The spiral continues, and in an unmitigated disaster, Hoyas finish 1-6. Same as Scenario 1, except L @ USF (who just beat MQ, btw), L @ SJU. They pull out a close one for pride on Senior Day over DeP. A drunk alum from one of the classes of '99 through '05 starts a "Fire Esherick" chant and is quickly silenced by his sectionmates. Clyde's, Greene Turtle, and Rocket Bar run out of beer in the "mini-wake" that follows.
And the craziest part is that I could see any of the above happening and not be that surprised. What a crazy year. At least in 2002-03 we expected to be weak, in 03-04 we expected to be BAD, in 04-05 we were just happy to have a winning record again, 05-06 was groovy, 06-07 was GRAVY, and 07-08 was a bit of a downer given expectations, but still a very good year given winning the BE, going to the BET finals, and getting a 2 seed. But this year? Beating UConn on the road and then losing to Seton Hall on the road? Beating Memphis at home in OT and then losing to Cinci at home in OT? Sapp regaining his legs and going 4-5 one game only to play 6 mins the next?
No wonder kenpom rates the Hoyas as the 301st lucky team and the LEAST CONSISTENT basketball team (that's right we're #344) in Div-I this year.

I think the team finally "got it" today, unfortunately it took until the 8 munute mark of the second half to get it. Nevertheless, our best players have found their sea legs again and showed guts, pupose and teamwork. 5-1 the rest of the way, only loss at Nova.

I vote for an updated scenario 5 (minus the OT loss to Syracuse). I very much look forward to witnessing the convergence of "onions, nuttage, coffee, plus BelarusBomber, Omar, etc.," whereby the Hoyas finish 6-0 and you forgot, of course, bring the BET title back to Georgetown, where it belongs!!!
Have you guys lost your faith? I may be an atheist (or a non-believer as Obama likes to put it), but even I have not lost my faith in the HOYAS. This team is finally starting to play together again after a very rough patch, so don't jump off the wagon just yet. COME ON!!!

I stand by my predictions. I thought Syr would be a tough place to win, but the team we saw ystday wont overlook USF; the team we saw yesterday is capable of winning home games against Marq and Lville (it might not mean we are better than them, but home teams can win those game. see ND, WVU). If those things happen, we are firmly in the discussion.
