"Hmm. We're not down with this kennel club's practices, and we want to draw attention to our animal rights message. How can we best do this?" "Oh, I know! Let's dress up like the KKK in the middle of New York City!" "Awesome! That'll go over just as great as our practice of comparing animals to Holocaust victims!"

All this while the WKC and Pedigree raised over $200,000 during the show to aid animal shelters and charities.
The only PETA I support is People Eating Tasty Animals.

I'd feel more offended about their descent into caricature's of themselves if I endorsed their ideas from the get go. Militant vegetarians = fail

They seem intent on burning any bridges with people who might at least be ideologically hospitable to them. I caught this story from a feminist blog, whose writers hate PETA because they're constantly objectifying women in their ads. I have ideological objections to animal rights, though, so I'm happy to see PETA constantly fail.

But it is even more important to temper your message and go for moderation the less mainstream your beliefs are. Not eating ::nom nom:: meat? Seems ::nom nom:: absurd. Sorry, I'm just finishing my sausage, egg, and cheese.

I support animal rights in a general sense, but PETA still ticks me off.
If they took all the time and effort they used for their KKK protest and used it to encourage people to adopt pets from animal shelters they would have done far more to actually help animals.

Sorry, I'm just finishing my sausage, egg, and cheese. But its much easier to develop an "us versus the world" mentality, which makes fundraising somewhat easier. However, when a group jumps the shark the general membership tends to punish them greatly (ACLU membership dropping drastically in the wake of defending the rights of Nazis to march, NRA membership falling after a tone deaf response the OKC bombings.)
