We have seen this time and time again. Roy Williams has had great teams over the years. Number 1 seeds galore, favorite to win it all. Do you guys think they will choke this year in the Tournament or will they win it all. What do you guys think, since I know many of you follow the team.

With risk of sounding like an UNC cheerleader, I have to believe that if UNC doesn't go far in the tourney it won't be the fault of the Coach.
This team has so much talent its ridiculous, I said it in the other thread, but damn, these guys looked sick yesterday. Throwing alley oops, dominating the middle, and destroying Tony Bethel among others with flat-out hustle.
If they implode, it won't because Roy Williams is a bad coach. I can't imagine he has to do much coaching with that squad. I do see Illinois choking in the second round. I just haven't been that impressed with them.

What?!?!?! Sorry don't mean to take this thread away from UNC, Mplshoya what more must Illinios accomplish to impress your high standards? I mean if you haven't been impressed with Illinois season to date, you must think the Hoyas have had a terrible season.
They beat Wake by 18, Gonzaga by 17 , Cincy by 22, they are the first team to beat Wisconsin at home in like 500 games(little bit of an exaggeration), and they just beat a very good Michigan St. team at their place by 13.
I mean to say that you feel Illinois may falter in the tourney and actually provide a reason why is one thing, but to say they "haven't impressed me" is ridiculous. Im curious what team has impressed you? I mean if 19-0 and beating every top 25 team they have faced by double digits doesn't qualify as a good team. I wonder what does.
They play an excellent "team" game, work hard on both ends of the court, much improved big men, and are a very good 3pt shooting team. Wow you would think I was Illinois fan. I guess I simply don't get it.
....and if your a coach and have clearly the best talent in the nation, then who is to blame when you fall short???

i think the reason that no one respects illinois is that they are playing in a watered down Big Ten this season. with only three locks for the tournament. if they were playing in a better conference i am sure that they would be the unquestioned favorite to win it all.
as for roy, i hope he chokes, benidict.

But I guess I'm not impressed because i grew up following the Big Ten and I know how sorry that conference is. IMHO they are definitely a great regular season team, but they are not going to do well in the tourney. Trust me, Wisconsin is not very good this year, and Cincy has lost to every good team they've played. UNC would smoke Illinois. The reason I said it wouldn't be Williams' fault is because it seems that the players do all the work, they either dump it down to May, or Felton and Jawad go off. Honestly though, we saw Gtown play Illinois...did they really look like a team that could win the NCAA's? I don't think so.

Honestly though, we saw Gtown play Illinois...did they really look like a team that could win the NCAA's? I don't think so. Yes. We played great, and they still blew us out. The Illini are possibly vulnerable to a big, tough, team. Someone like UConn, maybe. The Illini have destroyed all comers. And just because the Big 10 is weak this year doesn't mean the Illini are bad -- they haven't lost to these teams. It just means that it isn't as hard to win. But they still are undefeated.

SFhoya99,
I wouldn't say we played great against the Illini. We played with them for a few minutes, but couldn't buy a bucket later on. (Of course, I got progressively drunker, so maybe my vision was off). I would love to play them now and see how we do.

Illinois is the best team in the country by far. They are fast, unselfish, intelligent and versatile. They are great on the ball defenders and they believe in each other. While UNC is spectacularly talented and fast, they lack some of these key factors and many of the intangibles or "it". I would pick Illinois over UNC every time.

While we're talking about watered down conferences...ACC, come on. They are in a down year, the media (ESPN) just doesn't want to admit it.
With just two legit teams (UNC and WF), one untested (Duke), a couple underachievers (GT and MD) and a handful of total disappointments (UVA, NCST, Clemson, FLSt) they have not impressed as a conference.
I mean if Miami and Tech can finish middle of the pack...well, quite frankly they better be in a down year. Otherwise, they are just inherently worse than we, and the rest of America, believed.
You can't have it both ways...the ACC is either in a down year or this is how they always are...for the ACC's sake I hope its the former, but I suspect that its the later.

This team is good...but beatable...
I think Illinois, UCONN, Pitt or Michigan State can beat them because of their size on the inside...
But it would be a mistake for any team to try to run up and down the floor with the Heels...especially if Felton is healthy...

I couldn't put it any better myself. One of the two "legit" ACC teams WF got spanked by Illinois and WF beat UNC. I don't buy into all that, but it should demonstrate something. Williams is a classic system coach who can recruit the best talent in the world, but struggles w/ the x's and o's to win close games. Let's not forget that UNC lost to Santa Clara. I could definitely see UNC not showing up and getting upset in the second round by some mid-major team.

^ Felton did not play, and he is the most important player on that team. This team is too good, its scary. They win it all this year.

They win it all this year. which loss?? and i disagree w/ felton as the most important player. i would say its may. w/o may they have no inside game to open up the outside. They have no pure shooters. They have a bunch of guys who are slashers. I see them losing in a game where the tempo is slowed down and the opposing team packs it inside in a zone (the 'cuse?) i don't see them shooting the opposing team out of a zone.
