Nice Buff... JT3 is now 6-2 in OT and you compare him to Esh. I didn't compare JTIII to Esh in any other way than the play he drew up today was almost identical to many of the non-plays Esh would throw at us during his tenure. Am I wrong?!? You're not wrong but have we ever actually won a game on a "play?" Jeff vs Vandy was a "play" that was blown up and Jeff took care of business. Jeff versus ND was just giving it to Jeff. Ashanti to Roy versus ND was all improvisation from Cook. Sapp's 3 to beat WVU was all Jessie on another broken attempt to get it inside. It's such a myth on this board, it's comical. Your end of game play is to get it to your best option. Cincy sagged on Greg and Chris took too long to make a decision. He needed to see that the play wasn't there and take it to the hoop at 7 or 8 seconds. He didn't. Calm, talented, confident players execute end of game plays. Right now we have 1 of the 3 covered.

somebody PM'ed me and said he was ill with the flu. another poster, with all of four posts I may add, told me to "back off Jessie", because he was ill with the flu. So I'm just going with the excuse, riding it out for all it's worth

I'm not debating any of that. You should have just left it at "you're not wrong," because TODAY'S end-of-game play was atrocious. Period. And it didn't remind you of the prior regime, I don't know what to tell you. Putting the hyperbole aside, the difference is clear. Esherick would inbound the Braswell and have him hold it near halfcourt, bleed the clock, and have Bras wait until there were 5 secs or so left and have him drive. No off ball movement, no second option, literally just give it to one guy and that's it. Interesting reference to the Vanderbilt game by GIGA. I actually looked at the scoreboard during the timeout today and thought: "Hmmm...bout the same amount of time left as against Vanderbilt." (Totally not) Incidentally, that Vanderbilt call WAS a play--the very same play Princeton beat UCLA with in the NCAA first round in 1996...except UCLA gave up the baseline backdoor cut. Jeff Green ALMOST had Patrick Ewing Jr. with the baseline cut early (watch the video), but he faked the pass (Vandy may have had someone home in the lane IIRC) and took over. That's the philosophy at play here: use some motion or cut to give your team ONE look at a "play"--if it's open, take it, if not the ball handler needs to take over as Plan B. In today's case, Summers ran through and faked a high screen in front of Wright. Monroe then gave the high screen, caused a switch, and got himself matched up with a 6'1 guard. THAT WAS THE LOOK, and for whatever reason when Wright dribbled back nearer to Monroe we didn't take it. So it was Plan B time and we all saw what happened. I think it's inaccurate to say we didn't have a play called and to use the E word. We executed it terribly though, certainly in a way that would remind of the E word. GIGA is right in that we do not have players at the moment who can do Plan B. Jeff Green in his third to last college game could. Chris Wright cannot yet.

The biggest failure of both the staff and players is simple: was there focus and effort for the whole game? Nope.
How in the heck does this team come out lethargic? The time is long past having to bench players to get the team going. How can these players not care enough to play hard at the opening tap when their season is on the line?

Revenge game, must-win, at home just off the losing streak and the first 5 minues were just abysmal. And this isn't "slow starting" because you can always play defense even if your shots aren't falling. It was a poor poor poor effort.

sapp was sick with the flu??? I guess we all cant be like jordan and play when were sick. I cant accept that he should have been clawing to get into that game.. I dont know anything behind the sceens but i think it was a good old fashioned benching and well deserved. Funny thing i watched the game on tv and they never mentioned that sapp wasnt playing. I guess the announcers werent any good. At least that announcer chic would have pointed it out we know she loves her guards haha

Honestly, I am not saying he shouldnt have been benched, but to me it really seemed that Sapp had to be sick. I just dont think you bury a starter that deep for the first few minutes of bad play, unless there was some pretty significant unruliness or something. It was strange.

ADD Up all the bad minutes thats probably what JT3 is thinking. Clark will be better player in the long run anyways.. That is if he stops throwing passes to the guy in the 6th row...

Sapp's benching = coaches decision....according to the hoya, sapp was neither sick nor injured and coach refused to elaborate his reasoning for not playing jessie.

If that's true, When a key player like that is benched in a must win game, then there is something definitely going on that is seriously wrong in the lockerroom. Deleted. Refrain from outright speculation about specific players.

whatever it is,
we just need wins.
Here's the sad thing: we beat Uconn. With Memphis destroying Gonzaga tonight, that win is getting stronger by the day. we blasted maryland, we blasted syracuse and we've played the third toughest schedule in the country.
realistically, we really only need 18 wins to get to the dance. Problem is, I don't see five more wins left on our schedule.
This is awful

I think if they can get to the tourney they will be fine. My biggest concern was that this team was too small up front with JT3's 3 guard offense. I think JT3 has finally realized that you can't win that way, which is why Simms or Nikita is making the front line bigger. That's something he failed to recognize all last season and I think that cost us in the Davidson game where Ewing should have played more instead of Jeremiah Rivers.
