While finally updating some of the stats pages over at Hoya Prospectus, this jumped out at me: In Georgetown's 13 wins, - Jessie Sapp is 16/33 [48%] on 2FGs and 24/32 on FTs - Chris Wright and Austin Freeman are a combined 30/71 [42%] on 3FGs (14/33 and 16/38, respectively) In Georgetown's 8 losses, - Jessie Sapp is 3/18 [17%] on 2FGs and 3/5 on FTs - Chris Wright and Austin Freeman are a combined 9/51 [18%] on 3FGs (4/25 and 5/26)

Not so fun fact: Summers and Freeman have negative +/- for the season. That's right -- not just the last six games, not just Big East play, but including all the cupcakes.
While they are on the court, the team is about -45 during BE games, and when they are off, the team is +22 or so. Over 40 minutes, they are both around -15. That's just awful -- even for a team that is 4-6.
For all the smack about Jessie and Chris, both are positive in BE play (though Chris is essentially even), as is Omar, and Sims supporters will see him with a very high per 40 minute number (though with only 63 minutes, sample size is an issue).
Unsurprisingly, the team is awful when Greg is off the floor. Play him 40!

If you really want to be depressed, go look at the performance charts. Since the UConn game (12/29), Georgetown has played better than expected one time in ten games, versus Syracuse. That's it, that's the list. The Hoyas are 3-7 during the stretch, but neither the Provy nor Rutgers win was a very good performance by G'town. The only game that the defense was a positive (allowing less points than expected) was the last game against Rutgers.

One last not so fun fact: Look at the season's Season's Team SplitsIt will clearly point out what has consistently happened in our second half collapses -- look at what happens to our defense: - TO% Forced drops 5.7% -- that's about two turnovers we don't force.
- We give up 7.8% more in OR% -- meaning the opposition is grabbing a couple more offensive rebounds
- We foul nearly twice as much. And while some of that is end of game stuff, much of it isn't.
- We give up nearly 5% more in eFG%
- The result is a defensive efficiency of 20 points per 100 possessions in the second half. While that's only about six points difference in the half, that's a really big difference when you are talking twenty plus games into the season.
BTW, our second half offense looks nearly as good as our first half, but it isn't quite. The FTR caused by our wins likely gives us a boost to offset our declining rebounding -- we are not a bad rebounding team in the first half -- we're awful in the second.

Ugh - these numbers just make plain what we've all been seeing these past few weeks. This is just not a good team right now.

Those were some pretty interesting, although not all that surprising, numbers. Playing "better than expected" only once in the last 10 games is not at all surprising. I hope we can reverse that one for the remainder of the season!

D'oh, I'm not a computer geek - but I could actually tell we had underperformed the last 10 - just by watching the games!

I wonder how much of that comes down to legs and running out of wind? Less energy in the legs means less turnovers, getting beat to rebounds, and getting beat on defense, which causes fouls when players try to make up for the mistakes.

We all know that we are better than we have been playing. It is time for everything to gell. We started with a not so pretty win vs Rutgers, let's continue with a win vs Cincy with good play.

The plus/minus for Summers and Freeman is astounding. Nothing else here surprises me much, but I'm just shaking my head over that plus/minus.
