We should just play and stick with as much as possible the 5 guys that give us the best chance of winning every game. For me thats Monroe, Wright, Summers, Freeman and Sapp.

I think re-building is appropriate when talking about Sapp. Wright is the man for the next 2 years and he's got to learn this offense at some point since last year was a wash. So, I think Sapp gets burned at the expense of Chris' learning curve.

the repeated 'this team lacks heart and desire' is such a copout -- so many love to use that argument to explain our losses.
today, this wasn't a 'lack of heart and desire'.
today was poor defense and sloppy basketball, and, yet again, poor shooting.
we are not sound defensively -- that does not mean guys aren't trying. 1) we overcommit to penetration causing us to give up wide open 3s. 2) we play an undersized lineup (especially with Dajuan out) that makes it even tougher to rebound or discourage penetration (shoot, we had Wattad, Nikita, and Freeman trying to control the boards). 3) Think about it -- it's hard to name a good defender on this team. I thought Wright would be (and I think he has the athleticism to be) but so far this season he hasn't shown that. Monroe is probably our best defender, and the drop after that is big. The loss of Rivers, Hibbert, and Ewing on the defensive end is really starting to show.
Poor defense + poor shooting (as we've seen) means a loss against most BE teams. To top it all off, even Monroe had a subpar game today (both offensively and defensively).
One thing I still can't understand -- where was Sapp in the 2nd half? IIRC, he had 9 rbs and 4 assists against SHU, and was 2-5 from 3. I know he's been shooting poorly, but I still don't understand why he's been sitting more than playing. His experience matters, his toughness matters -- I would love to pick Thompson's brain to understand his philosophy on Sapp's PT. Him getting more PT is certainly no silver bullet, but I just can't understand how Thompson wouldn't feel more comfortable with him in the game during the home stretch.

I honestly think that we all took for granted what players like Jon Wallace, Roy, Jeff, PE Jr even Tyler brought to this team over the last few years. To a man, they were extremely mature, level-headed, hard-working and most importantly, played together. They weren't highly recruited, and it's safe to say, each maximized their abilities.
The same things that made us appreciate those guys are the things that are making us so frustrated about this group. We knew we could always count on Jeff or Jon to make the right play, Roy to give us a basket just when we needed it or PE Jr to dive for that loose ball or make that big block when the game was on the line.
We don't have that. We don't have the leadership. We don't have the teamwork. Maybe it will come with maturity, who knows. Or maybe we need more guys who want to work for it.

Maybe Sims and Monroe are the same people?
Are there any other reasons people can think of why they play together so rarely
(Trying to tell myself that this game was just a "blip")

Very sophisticated. Work on your spelling first, deleted. Yes, you're the only one frustrated. You're right on, I am trying to get rid of everyone who is "calling this team out." You are so bold. Like they care what some deleted says. Because you add so much. I'm sure the team is jumping on the board right now translating your lovely prose Summers sprained his ankle, moron! Go back wherever you came from, which is probably Syracuse. Paul Harris needs extras for his videos. I would like to raise the quality of the discourse by noting that Vinny eats it.

Look, we were clearly spoiled by the last 2 seasons. We lost 6 regular season conference games combined - looks like we'll match that on Saturday.
All is not lost, we can turn things around and still make the tourney. But this has definitely now become a rebuilding season, so we should all adjust our expectations accordingly.

I disagree this is a rebuilding year -- to mean rebuilding means you have no talent and start over. This team has tons of talent. That talent is being wasted. Whether it is maturity, lack of mental toughness, or loss of confidence (or some combination of the three) I'm not sure.

I don't think Jessie has just forgotten to play basketball this year. I don't think that having Omar or Nikita or even Jason on the court in his place really serves us well.
