The dance team is a nightmare!
Move them, get rid of them, whatever, just get them out of the student section, after that no one cares what happens. All I hear at every game is students moaning about how terrible the dance team is. Don't let groove theory have seats in the student section either. Their performances are 20 times better than the dance teams but they also leave early, dont care about the game and sit around not even watching the action.

We've been talking about this in another thread (and I hate to create additional clutter on the board), but I think this might be worth it. There has been some discussion about the band and ways to make it more of a force at the games. During the course of that suggestion, members of the band have said that they would welcome any ideas for songs they should consider playing during the games. Perhaps this post could serve as a permanent spot to collect all of those suggestions, and someone in the band could take these song ideas to practice when they have them and see if any are worthwhile. Go to a Howard game... They have a lot of songs that have Smokin' Bass lines and nice percussion stuff too... Florida State and Duke have stolen music and cheers from schools across town...there's nothing that says you guys can't do the same...

There was a fight between the dance team and some students last night. What happened is that the dance team had the 2nd row behind me reserved (the row in front of the senior section). They did NOT have the row directly behind me reserved. Three kids who came early and had been with me in line took the first three seats behind me. When the dance team showed up like 30 minutes later, they threw a hissy fit about the kids right behind me and claimed that they had those seats reserved too when they obviously didn't and got an usher to throw three well-deserving kids out. And of course, this being 30 minutes after they opened the gates, there were no seats left in the floor section.

aggypryd is right. Didn't Broadus get a degree from Howard? Back when i was on the hilltop I used to cruise on over to Howard and play with their jazz band. They were a pretty hip group. There should be some music/ticket exchange program. I used to get b-ball tix for the Howard guys and they always appreciated that. Band folks, make this happen!

They tried to reserve the 2nd and 3rd rows at the SJU game and then asked 007 and I if we'd make sure no one took them....we'll if you think about how much the two of us like the idea of SENIORS reserving seats in the front five rows, you can imagine our joy at seeing the dance team try and do the same. They were really surprised when they came out and their "seats reserved for Hoya dance team" signs had migrated back to the 8th+9th row ;D ;D And whoever said that the dance team was hot, well...how bout no. And definately not hot enough for the bs that they try and pull with the seat reserving, not being there, crappy routine and not caring about the game.

Dude, dont know what dance team you're looking at, but they are 8 zillion time better than the cheerleaders. And since I care more about looking at them than I do about sitting in certain sections of the student section, I say they should stay. Either that, or they can come over to the YA section - there's plenty of room on my lap for any/all of them.

How about we get rid of the cheerleaders and replace *them* with the dance team? Better looking and marginally more talented.

I suggested that to someone last night, but the marginal improvement wasn't really enough to sway anyone into action. The plan we decided on was flying out to USC/UCLA and stealing...I mean kidnapping...I mean bribing their squads to come out here.

A lot of schools have both cheerleaders and dance teams doing organized cheers. I don't understand why our dance team ONLY does one short routine per game (usually recycled). If they're a dance team, they should be the dance team for the ENTIRE game, not just 2 minutes.
The cheerleaders atleast have started to do a bit more to add to the arena atmosphere by throwing t's, spreading themselves to other areas of MCI and trying to get the non-student fans more involved. This doesn't make up for a lack of male cheerleaders who can really help to start organized cheers and stuff, but atleast it's something. It would be great if the dances could choreograph some simples routines to a few of the songs the band plays. That's not too much to ask, is it? I'll try talking to one of my friends on the team to see what they think, doubt it'll make a difference tho.
go band! go hoyas!

I thought it was great that the dance team did a throwback to the days when they were the kickline at the SHU game. They were much better then since they needed to be coordinated to begin with...

I wish they would do a throwback to when they didn't exist, that would be really sweet.

A lot of schools have both cheerleaders and dance teams doing organized cheers. The miami dance team was the highlight of MSG big east tourney games. when we played them a few years back in the tourney, the fans at MSG gave a big "boo" to our cheerleaders in the hopes of getting the miami group back on the floor.

Oh yeah, and the band needs to play some more Journey besides "any way you want it."

"Oh, so maybe you guys would be the ones to talk to about who wrote "Da Moon Rulz, #1" on the side of my car WITH A FRICKIN' KEY." Carl Brutananadilewski is probably television's most underrated and excellent character. "Fryman, I'm so sorry...that I can't press charges."

THE SUNSATIONS, oh yeah!! Just about the only reason to go to UM games for many years. Something that sort of unifies the two themes running here, the best halftime performance I've seen at a college game in a while was last year at the GU-Miami game in Coral Gables. Just a random middle school dance team doing a routine to "Apache" by the Sugarhill Gang--one of those where the crowd inexplicably starts going nuts. A song which, coincidentally, it appears the GU band just put into the set list recently. Good choice.
