As mentioned previously, several personalities on the local sports radio station has suggested that III brings in a thug or two to provide much needed tougness on this team. Obviously, felons would not be considered.lol
Imo, we simply can't compete on a consistant basis with the current group and style of play against physical teams such as louisville, pitt, etc.
So the question of the day is, thug life or no?
EAST SIDE!

Let's make it clear Sixer--we want TOUGH MINDED/AGGRESSIVE players--i.e. "Thugs" because you know how things get confused when you throw terminology out there and people don't know your intentions.
Championship teams are made up of guys who:
1. Hate to lose more then love to win--everyone loves winning but how many guys hate losing?
2. Play to win--don't care about stats--only thing that matters is winning.
3. Can do things other then score to impact a game--i.e. More Greg Monroe's!!!
4. Understand how to play basketball which is/was/will be an inside/out game. You go in and then out. Whether that is down to post or driving/kicking-that is basketball.
5. Most of all--DEFENSE DOESNT TAKE MINUTE OFF. You can win when you aren't hitting shots--as last year's team proved. Hoyas played ugly a lot last year--and won. When shots don't fall--that means you defend and create some offense by getting stops and trying to get some turnovers.
It's not rocket science-just play and compete. I want to see more guys who despise the idea of losing instead of thinking "we can win--but I got to get mine". Right now--I can count 3-4 guys on this team that think FGA's and points mean more then winning. Not to say they don't want to win-but their play isn't reflecting that--and it's all I can judge them by.

EAST SIDE! Pops uses the word "thug" loosely. He probably shouldn't because it plays into some folks pre-conceptions about hoya Paranoia and the supposed "thugs" on the team in the '80s. But knowing what Pops REALLY means... some tough minded and physically tough guys... like Michael Graham, yes, but also like Zo, Perry McDonald, Craig Shelton, Joey Brown, Boubacar Aw, Don Reid, Gene Smith, Pat Sr. & Jrs. Those guys weren't all big monsters...but they were all tough. This team needs some tough guys. And it needs a leader to drive the other guys. I think that leader has to be Greg. But he's only 18 and tries to hard to fit in. He needs to demand that everyone else fit in with where he is going.

I think more simple then most of you highly educated Georgetown guys. When I think of what the team needs--I'd say more guys who are thinking:
1. "SEE BALL--GET BALL" when a shot goes up and missed
2. "I've got 5 fouls--use them and make them feel it". 3. "No easy looks for them"
4. "Ball is on court--get it". Nikita showed the way during Cuse game--others? I've seen more then enough bending at waist to get loose balls for my taste .
5. "BALL IS MINE"---doesn't matter if you are 6'1 or 7'2--if you want the ball--you'll get it. If you want excuses for not getting it--that'll show too.

Jerome Williams aka "Junkyard Dog" ... loved watching him play and yes, he would be perfect for our offense

Remember when the Hoyas were the poster children for sharing the basketball?
It seems so long ago. Since the 2nd half of Duke we are so far upside down on assist/to John Wooden's kids would bring him to one of our games if they needed the inheritance.
And selfishness is a virus. The moment I remember most of the last two games is Vaughn's crossover. When your backup big man is trying to Tim Hardaway his man 25 feet from the hoop, the whole team needs to re-examine their commitment to the team.

I like Jeff Adrien. Guy looks mean. Double-double every time. Crushes forearms when he goes for the strip down low. Picks like a brick wall. Offensive rebound with the put-back and foul fires him up more than anything. A bit nasty.
Dajuan Blair, obviously. He loves being the guy every opposing fan hates. Too short to out-rebound or defend the 5? Nope. Why? Because he's tougher, stronger and wants it more than the taller guy.
How about any 4/5 from the Cincy teams when Huggins was coach. Ugly stat line guys. 7pts, 13rbs, 4blks, 4pf.
We need that. It's not Vaughn. Dude has chicken wing arms for a big. Sims? Maybe, he's got the energy but he's not getting the run.
It's a problem.

I hate the word thug when I hear it about Gtown ball b/c it seems like the media, other fans just wait to here something like this so they can bash Gtown and their program.
I have to ask the question thow!! Who else is recruiting these guys with JT3?? Are they going to keep recruiting players like whats on our team as of now. They need to start recruiting players that that are fearless...Recruit players that will intimidate the other team...recruit players that will play top notch defense and will do anything to rebound a basketball.
The team we have now does none of that!!! Yes I like Summers and Monroe but they also are missing all those things.Until we go back and start recruiting those type of players like we did before we will never see true Gtown basketball.
