This was the first game I have seen this year, so please indulge me a few extra lines.
First of all for this team to have won 6 BE games this year alone qualifies JT# for the award. He basically has 2 upperclassmen he can count on (Bowman and Cook) and the other key players are all freshmen(Green,Hibbert and Wallace) I see what other posters mean when they say that Owens just disappears. He seems to have a decent game, but there are players and there are BE caliber players. Owens and Reed can play but the defense played by 90% of the BE teams is a higher caliber defense than in any other conference. It seems Owens and Reed have not adjusted. Owens still seems intimidated after 3 years and Reed hasn't learned that the moves to the basket he made in high school won't go anywhere in the BE. Wallace seems to have hit a wall. I don't know if that wall was erected at the beginning of BE play or just recently. Clearly though tonight he looked every bit a freshman on offense.
Green is everything you guys have said about him. Esherick returned the favor of Big John leaving him a Sweetney in the covert, by leaving his son with Green as a recruit. If any team dared to play this team man-to-man this kid would go for 20 easily. There really is no comparison of what he brings to the table and what Rudy Gay brings. Green is clearly the better of the two at this stage. JT3 is definitely Big John's son. This team plays great defense. I was particularly impressed with the big men hedging out on the high picks to force the guards wide so the defender could recover and the big man would go back to his man. Of course it did not hurt that the refs were not calling the game very tight. Big Roy is a force under the basket with his size alone, but he recovers well when initially bummped or picked. The difference in Bowman and Cook in their shot selection from last year to now is day and night. Good game by both. On offense if Sapp and Thornton are the shooters they say they are, this team will be a lot of fun to watch next year. I repeat JT3 deserves the Coach of the year right now. Skinner is doing a great job but he has an experienced frontcourt and backcourt. All that being said, a good win Hoyas. keep it up.
