Ok, I could take Pitt. I could take Notre Dame. Duke was tough. This is a TERRIBLE loss. I can't believe I had to stop watching my beloved Hoyas. It pains me to say the following things, but I feel like I have to do so. It's tough to win, when:
-Your "stars" like Monroe, Freeman, and Summers CONTINUOUSLY miss free throws.
-You are just soft. No two ways about it. This team is just SOFT. I'm not saying they aren't trying and hustling and battling, but we don't ever get the ball. Ever. We cause very few turnovers. We actually do get some blocks. But our rebounding is so embarrassing it makes me sick.
-Monroe is starting to dominate and we cut it to two. We stop them on THREE posessions in a row, and what do we do? Pass it to Greg? Of course not. We jack three horrible threes in transition. I've never seen us make a three in transition. Why does Austin Freeman CONTINUE to do it every game? Chris Wright, same thing?
-Your fast break is the worst I've seen from a Division I team in my life on this earth. That might seem a bit drastic, but there is no way you can tell me differently. 4 on 2 in the first half? Freeman throws it behind Clark. Run out for Wright in the second half when down 4? He dribbles it off of his leg. Pathetic.
-Our "tenacious" defense continuously gives up WIDE OPEN THREES the entire game. Here's an idea. Butler is going off tonight. Let's guard him. Or not, let's have no communication, no switches, and let's have him be wide open off of EVERY screen. That's great. If not, let's just let them have a wide open lane.
-When your "athletic and quick" point guard gets absolutely schooled by every other guard in the league on the defensive end. Good God Wright has been disappointing on defense.
-When your "senior leader" adds nothing in any way, shape, or form. Nothing. Nada. Zero.
-On the back of that, you have no leaders. There aren't any on this team. Monroe maybe? Clark sometimes? Away from that, nobody.
It's hard to care about a team when they are this soft. I love JTIII, I always will, but something has to change. Enough of this "system" and recruiting "great guys for the system". Guess what? EVERY TEAM HAS OUR OFFENSE FIGURED OUT. If we don't hit threes, we lose. As Austin Freeman so diligently showed us tonight. Either recruit kids that fit the system, have great basketball IQ's, can shoot, pass, etc. but might be soft at the other end, or get some kids in there that want to get after it. Every other team in the league has kids that GET AFTER IT. We have one, maybe. Jason Clark, a 6'2 guard. That is scary.
I'm scared to death of Seton Hall on Sunday. They'll get after us too. If we don't start hitting shots, this could snowball pretty quickly. I hate to be so negative, but it is what it is.
