At 5pm tomorrow (Thursday). Nice to see that ESPN Classic is showing a win (70-67, according to the Hoya Basketball History Project), but anyone know why they'd pick a first round game that involved a team that went 6-10 in the BE and lost in the 2nd round of the NIT?

Whenever you get a chance to show a Rhese Gibson game, you do it and don't ask questions.

i'm fairly certain we won on a 3 at the buzzer. i could be wrong, i try and block out that era of hoya hoops. might have been braswell.
we upset syracuse the next day in what could have been the best coaching performance by esh. he put lee scruggs at the foul line against the 2-3 and he dominated. he also played very well the next game against uconn.

I thought braswell was a solid player. It seems that everyone dismisses him cause it was like the worst era we ever had yada yada yada. But remember he was steady his whole career he actually was able to make a shot beyond the ft line and in that era IS impressive. I dont know maybe im wrong but i look back on him and say... Yeah good player I enjoyed watching him play even though i was Editeded pretty much everything else about teh team and program was shot...

I was at this game - Braswell did indeed win it for us at the buzzer. It wasn't a pretty game. We then upset Syracuse and there was some talk in the media we were working our way onto the bubble for the NCAA Tourney but needed to beat UCONN to really have a shot of sneaking in. I think we lost to UCONN by 4, we played a very good game but didn't quite have enough in the tank to pull off another upset.

My senior year Big East, and it was a good tourney for GU. Georgetown did win by a Braswell 3 at the buzzer (of course, we tried to win with that play for two more years and the results weren't exactly consistent). The Syracuse upset was huge -- they were the 1 seed so it was big for us to knock them off. Also that was the only time during my four years on the Hilltop that I was able to physically witness a win over Syracuse, so that was sweet. The loss to UConn was heartbreaking in some ways, but we knew there was little left in the tank.
GU went on to the NIT and beat UVA in a 3OT thriller at Charlottesville before losing on the road to Cal, I believe.
That was also the Big East where Villanova fans just wouldn't leave town, the Bead Show came to the Hotel Penn, and we discovered that when you fill things with water they make a much louder sound when they hit the ground after a 15-story fall. Good times, good times.

FOlks would have a much higher opinion of Braswell if he didn't have to be the man on many of those teams.

Still recall fondly the standing ovation we gave him in political systems the next day. He blushed and sheepishly walked to his seat. Great guy.

I had forgotten all about that game. All I really remember about that season is that WVU had no home court all year, as the WVU Coliseum was (no joke) closed for asbestos removal. The team had to play their home games 80 miles away in the Wheeling Civic Center.
It was even worse for the WVU women, who were forced to play their home games at Morgantown High School. UConn was not pleased about being forced to play in a high school, and drubbed the WVU women 100-28.
