I almost forgive myself for my bonehead move last night. . .you know, that guy who taped ESPNNews by accident instead of ESPN Classic? Yeah, that was me. D'OH, D'OH, D'OH, D'OH, D'OH! ! ! Could that mistake have had anything to do with your speech impediment, stomach virus and inner ear infection??

Suffice to say, the uniform announcement drew a HUGE applause at the meeting among the alums.
I wouldn't mind MCI so much- mind you, I still think the on-campus arena is the long-term solution- if they would let us decorate it a bit.... hang some banners, pictures, etc. What would you guys hang in MCI to make it more homey?
BE title banners? NCAA/NIT banners? BE school banners?
They can't be as embarrassing as the WNBA attendance champion banners (5 of them!!!) that currently hang next to our one National Champ banner.

I definitely think we should hang:
1. Our 2005 Big East Champion Banner 2. Our 2005 Final Four Banner 3. Our 2005 NCAA Champion Banner 4. Our 1996 Final Four Banner (in the record books UMASS forfeited their regional championship to us because of Marcus Camby's ineligibility, and in my mind that makes us regional champions...now we just need the NCAA to get on board and officially recognize us)

Man, if we broke out the new uni's at the BET I would be going crazy!!! That would be so awesome, I'd definitely be too ridiculously happy to explain in words.

I think we'll have to wait for next year until we see a uniform change. Anyway, I hope we go old school with the jerseys. No names on the back and real blue and real gray.

I don't mind names on the back(I actually like them), did our old jerseys not have names on the back? All I care about is that we have real home gray unis and real dark blue road unis.

We're all excited, but you are on the road to becoming a one-post pony, along the lines of "TOWELS!!! DRINK BEER THROUGH STRAWS!!" Just be careful.

I'm a little late on this one, but I just want to say that this is GREAT news, and I can't wait to see what the new uni's look like next year. It's still a crying shame that they didn't bust out the old school grays for the retro night, I think that's part of the reason why Barker Davis call the promotion "thoroughly lame."
But next year, I'll finally not have to cringe every time I watch a Hoya away game.
Hoya Saxa! ;D

Frankly, that's an attitude that is going to have to change. The rising cost of off-campus basketball will continue to affect the long-term viability of the entire program, and the athletics staff as a whole needs a better facility to work in--it's a 55 year old building without any major renovations since it opened. I think we talked a lot about this last year, but so we don't forget the other things that have to improve in this program, I have to ask: Where is the program right now, financially? What other long-term needs are there besides a on-campus arena? It costs at least $75K to rent MCI, right? Is it more now? So, how many tickets do we have to sell to start turning a profit on a game-by-game basis? Not trying to be a buzz kill, just up front. Besides, I feel a whole helluva lot better about this program today than i did a year ago. More than I ever would have imagined.

And yes, we need more banners, that 1984 championship banner sure looks lonely. How about all the Final Four banners (there should be 1943, 1982, 1984, 1985), and if we have room, all the Big East title banners?
BTW, there should be NO NIT banners in McDonough, just NCAA banners. NIT banners are an absolute joke, it Editedes me off every time I see them. NIT is not something to be proud of.

That is a ridiculous statement. It really depends on what year the NIT banner is from. It used to be at least as strong as the NCAA. Check Marquette when Al McGuire took the (arguably) best team in the country to the NIT rather than the NCAA.

CA-thats not completely true about the NIT. While you want to be in the NCAA tourney every year I wouldn't call NIT banners an embarrassment, especially not the old ones from when the NIT was a really big deal.

NIT = Nobody Important Tournament. ;D That said, I understand that the NIT used to be real big, perhaps even a bigger deal than the NCAA's. But it isn't anymore. I've never seen any other school that celebrates the NIT with banners. It shouldn't be done.

You mean that NIT banners from the 50's or whenever the NIT was biggest shouldnt be celebrated even though teams that won it back then considered it a National Championship? I think those schools would disagree with you.

We all know where one former coach liked to hang NIT banners.
One possibility is to do like BC does, and put up a single banner for all NCAA appearances, and add a new year every time, and a similar, separate banner for NIT appearances, and a banner for each final 4 and perhaps final 8's or final 16's as well.

Well, perhaps you can save the ones from when the era when NIT was still meaningful. Otherwise, I say unless you won the whole NIT (which we have not), ditch the other ones. It just looks bad when you see a whole long line of NCAA banners, and then a bunch of NIT banners from 97 to now. IMHO, I think it just looks bad.
Wow, 007 and I are really pushing this thread off topic... BLUE AND GRAY!! YEEAAH!
