Grrr....that was the game I started to hate Brian Davis...He ruined our chance to win the title that year when he hurt Alonzo in that game.

How do they not show the game from 06? That game was splendidly played, nevermind the background story, players involved, rankings, etc.!

Great watching that game. That year was when i started being a Hoya fan. loved the heart of that team. Listening to billy raf is always a pleasure-- he called Mutombo doing well in the league. Man Alonzo was dominant.

Namely the 823989823 showings of the 2003 final staring 'melo. Yeah, but they really do limit their use of other network's broadcasts. That's why their daily line-up consists of so much god-awful stuff that aired on ESPN: classic pool, classic bowling, classic poker, etc. And it's a good reason why a channel that should be great is usually dreadful.

Graeagale- same with me thats how i started becoming ahoya fan up here in uconn territory. Back then the hoyas had such an attitude and air about them.. I dont think they ever cam close to that since. I mean the iverson hoyas were awesome and the braswell hoyas were ok, but knowone had the intensity of Zo. I remember a overtime game at boston college that year i belive that eventhough the hoyas lost the game just just never quit. those were the days hahha

That game was my sophomore year, and the most fun game I ever went to. In retrospect, it had many parallels to the 2006 game: (i) Dikembe and Zo punked Laettner all day, much like Jeff did to Shelden Williams (the greatest game Dikembe played as a Hoya IMO); (ii) they had an annoying white guard at whom we screamed immature homophobic taunts (not especially proud of that one); and (iii) we kicked their ass for most of the game, but they clawed their way back and nearly stole the game. We needed Ronnie Thompson [shudder] to ice it with free throws.
We didn't know about the injury to Zo at the time - at least I didn't, but then again me and my roommate snuck a fifth of JD into the Cap Center and killed it during the second half of the first game (St John's - Georgia Tech if I remember right).

This game wasn't Deke's best IMO. It was arguably Zo's best game though considering the competition. Deke was just playing Robin to Zo's Batman in this one.
And yes St. John's vs GTech was the first game of the doubleheader.

Duke in '90 was my first Georgetown game as a freshman. And, honestly, it was the high point. I'll never forget the atmosphere and the excitement. It was what I imagined Georgetown basketball was going to be like when I was a high school kid.
While the next four years would have other great moments -- Joey Brown beating UConn with a last-second steal and layup, 'Zo singlehandedly beating Malik Sealy and St. Johns in the Big East Tournament come to mind -- it was pretty much a slow decline after that GU-Duke game; one that lasted until Iverson showed up on campus the year after I graduated.

It was amazing watching the game for the first time in 18 years how bad our guards/wings were. I was in 8th grade then so I guess I missed that.
Charlie Harrison (later transferred to Wake) Joey B, Morgan, Churchwell, and the white kid were not Big East level players. Gtown bball under pops died in Indianapolis vs Xavier in 1990. Although the Iverson years were great they never played like a great team.

I was there, it was incredible. Of course Duke went on to win it all and our program, well, we went down hill. I am going to look for the box score, someone please post it if they have it. Kenny A was there for G Tech.

1990 hoyas vs the 2008-09 hoyas who woudl win?? starters- joey brown vs chris wright---- advantage joey brown charles harrison vs jesie sapp--- advantage sapp robert churchwell vs freeman--- advantage freeman Zo vs summers--- huge advantage Zo motumbo vs Monroe--- advantage Monroe
Bench Kelley vs sims-- advantage sims thompson vs vaughn-- wash they both are brutal morgan vs clark-- big advantge clark
rebounding and heart go to the 1990 team, although looking aback on those games they just dont shoot the 3 as good as they do now. In the end Zo would dominate and the 1990 team woudl beat us up.. There strengths are our weaknesses. Your thoughts?

Well, our team would have to go big to counter when Zo and Deke are both in, because Summers isn't covering either of them. That means a lot of Sims on the floor, and while he's talented and showing flashes, he's not Dikembe Mutumbo yet. From there, I think the pretty huge frontcourt advantage would kill us, especially Zo and Deke's overall rebounding. And I think a junior Zo punks a freshman Monroe at least a bit.
Also, that game featured a bench technical on Duke. No specific player is mentioned. Love irony.

I seriously disagree with ranking Joey Brown ahead of Chris Wright, but I do agree with your overall evaluation. Zo and Deke up front would have been too much for the current team. They would have obliterated the current team on the boards.

sir saxa i know when yo think about ti quick your like JB over CW is insane. But im not talking about potential or when CW is a sr compared to joey brown as a sr. CW is a much better shooter any year agreeded. But what joey brown was, was steady, could drive and not turn the ball over half the time as CW seems to do. I know its a bit of a streach but Sapp and freeman get huge advantages remember. At least we agree overall though, the twin towers would bea us up pretty good.
It amazes me how not every play is all about teh 3 that was refreshing and the refing is more fair. I liked the game better back then haha.
