Even with these 2 though losses, One thing i just dont want people to forget is how awesome monroe has been. Im so impressed with this kid. If he ever stayed 4 years and worked on his game the skys the limit. In time, I envision him taking power forwards off teh dribble more and taking the long range shot if the defenfer is playing off of him. This guy has garnett written all over him. I think he can be even better than Zo when its all said and done.
your thoughts?

Thank god. I've been waiting for a thread about Monroe so we'd be able to discuss him a bit. He's gone pretty unnoticed.

I hope that Greg realizes that for all his skills, he will still be most efficient if focuses on his post-up game and attacking the rim.

I'm glad this has been brought up because I'd like to say that one area where Greg needs drastic improvement has been his assertiveness on defense. This is two straight games now where he's pretty much been owned by the opposing center, and granted, two very good centers, but ones that are nonetheless stoppable. I'd say he played good defense against Thabeet, but definitely still lacked "assertiveness." He doesn't get around the hoop and mix it up or put a body on somebody. Often, he ends up standing around the basket just looking up at the rim.
Now, save your "you're critiquing an 18 year-old who's been on the team for a few games blah blah blah,"s because I'm hoping Greg will develop a Ewing/Mourning type of intensity on defense (alright, maybe not that intense, but in that direction) over the years, but I feel it's worth mentioning since everyone has been all over his b-sac these past few games. Yes, he's been unbelievable on O, but I want to see some work down low on D. Perhaps this is due to the fact that he's a true 4, and not a 5, but I think he can do it. There's room for improvement here.

Well, Monroe was exceptionally assertive defensively early in the season. The Jacksonville game comes to mind. However, I think it became apparent immediately to Greg and the staff that this was an unwise approach given the likelihood that it would result in foul trouble more often than not. This is why Greg rarely tries to block the shot of the man he is guarding. Instead he plays sound defense and puts his arms straight up...if the guy makes the shot, he makes the shot. Greg's presence on the floor is too important to be trying to "mix it up."
Greg is more than capable of playing steller D...but that ability has to be sacrificed given our depth up front.

royski your too funny, i much rather read a most like mine thats positive rather than some of these silly lets jump off a bridge posts that some peopel have been spewing out. For example people suggesting sims shouls start over freeman come on guys??!!
As for moe, your totally right though i dont think your going to see this out of monroe at least not as defensive assertiveness as zo. I really think monroe is going to be primarly an offensive wepon. I think hell grow more in taking guys off the dribble or shooting an 18 foot jumper rather than becoming a defensive monster swatting shot after shot. Just my opinion.

Greg can score from anywhere on the floor. He can create his own shot and when he has the ball at the top of the key, he's so versatile. Pass, screen, drive, shot, the man's a beast.
