Preface: Greg is fantastic. Heroic, even. This humble poster could not be happier that this fine young gentleman has donned the blue and gray this season. I am 100% satisfied with what he brings to the court and the University.
It has come to my attention that Greg is receiving boatloads of recognition for his Herculean skillz. While I'm happy that Greg is receiving his due, I fear that such glowing reviews will encourage him to be a one-and-done, which I selfishly consider a bad thing.
The purpose of this thread, then, is to start some buzz on how Greg could really improve by spending another year under the tutelage of JTIII and University. We must make the case to the NBA and the media (who OBVIOUSLY read this stuff) that Greg will be better in the long run if he gets a year in Village B, spreading his wings in a glorious campus apartment.
This isn't a mission to badmouth. It's a mission to improve this extraordinary player--here at Georgetown. Tongue in cheek is fine; we're trying to pull the wool over the eyes of those who would have him leave!
Let the buzz begin:
Greg relies almost exclusively on his left hand. He needs an extra year on the Hilltop to develop right hand skillz. This would be much more effectively accomplished at Georgetown than in the NBA.

Greg is decent at all things, excels at nothing.
Personally, I think he needs another three years to fully develop.
EDIT: Damn you, Dan. Beat me to it.

I agree with DanMcQ This is an interesting topic. Another: an 8-10 foot offensive game would be a complement to his already-developed around-the-rim game. College generally, and III's system in particular, would be a better place to do that than the NBA. Defensively, he needs to work on boxing out and really leaping for boards. However at this point in his young career, I could not be more impressed or excited about his play, maturity, and development. Did you see that SICK no-look bounce pass to a cutting DaJuan on the baseline last night? Unreal.

(disclaimer about how Greg is already awesome...)
But he needs to finish the easy buckets!! This could be selective memory but it seems like too often he makes an amazing drive, post move, or rebound, but then misses the layup/dunk.

finishing with his right hand under the basket. other than that and getting stronger, you can't really say much that he needs to improve.

without greg, this team would be really struggling. that being said, one area i think he needs improvement is knowing when to pass and when to be selfish. i counted 3 times when monroe was at the rim and instead of dunking on some irish dude and/or drawing a foul, he passed to the perimeter. when you're greg monroe and at the rim, it is finish time - not time to be cute with the ball.

They like to talk about Greg being a point forward on TV. Well I think, with another few years on the hilltop, he could take that a step forward and become a full fledged point GUARD on offense, and a center on defense, sorta like the one girl who rocked on my high school's basketball team. A 6-11 point guard will be a very difficult match-up for opposing defenses.

That's a good point. It's something both Jeff and Roy had to learn, and once they did, the Hoyas were more successful.

Holy cow dung batman, some people seem to be taking this seriously...
Greg needs to devlop his dreads - Jeff was so much more effective with dreads, lost a lot with that hair. Look at Manny Ramirez man, all that hair and all those millions - Greg needs to step up, at least score a quality weave for now and take 48 months to grow that mop.

An offseason in weightroom would do wonders. I think his frame could support another 15-20 lbs.
He would be an absolute terror with 15 more lbs.

I saw him miss a free throw, maybe even 2. Who would want to draft someone after 1 year with the potential of missing free throws.

If he was right handed would people say he needs to develop his left hand? It's not just some token comment about how every basketball player would be better by being ambidextrous. It's coming to light now after the Pitt game because every time Blair played Monroe for his left in the post, Monroe would either try to go right (and look extremely uncomfortable doing so, miss, get blocked, etc.) or fake right and go back to the left. And it's coming to light after the ND game because the announcers who had probably seen the Pitt game noticed the same thing and said it on air. So if Monroe were right handed and overly dependent on his strong hand to the point where somebody exposed that weakness, then yes, people would hopefully say that he needs to develop his left hand.

As a Georgetown freshman, Greg doesn't speak to the media. He'll need AT LEAST two additional years on The Hilltop dealing with the media before he's ready to enter the pressure-cooker that is the NBA media.
