Link didn't work for me--but if it's about JaMarckus McFarland--then I've read it and laughed it off. If anyone thinks Texas is only school this stuff happens--I've got some beach front property for you right now in Twin Cities. It also loses a lot of credibility when you find out that Thayer Evans is an Oklahoma fan and worked/works for an Oklahoma affiliated fan site. Of course we all know the Sooners run a squeaky clean athletic department and nothing bad ever happens with players/boosters in Norman--be it basketball (Billy Tubbs and Kelvin Sampson) or football (Switzer and Stoops--i.e. the Bomar payment)

Interesting article about recruiting ... and nothing about Florida??? Sounds like a deceptive headline to me.

The Texas blogs have slammed Evans, complaining his article is mostly unsubstantiated rumor and his level of access to the family is overstated.
What is somewhat ignored is that the NYT Sports Page loves to report on recruiting, particularly when it shocks the conscience of the non-rabid sports fan. Pete Thamel in particular has been making such reports for years, including the Philadelphia Lutheran story that reflected negatively on GU. (Unlike Evans, Thamel typically gets his facts straight and writes well.)
Personally, I realize CFB recruiting can be a slimy game. And, to be fair, Evans describes both OU's and Texas' tactics as somewhat slimy. I don't see any substantiated claims of NCAA violations, and I don't see anything the Texas coaches or athletic department did (assuming the article is factually correct) that amounts to blatant impropriety. The slimy boosters are another story...
Anyway, not much to see here. I'm moving on.
