I like ND a little more after those posts. I just threw up in my mouth a little. Imagine a world where two or three reasonable posts made you hate ND less, where black could turn to white just by above average brainfarts? Even today, when I am inclined to spread love all over, NONE heads to South Bend. More talk like that and you will loose credibility here alleninxis

I think one of the best quote's i've come across is from a UNC thread on the game:
"Anyone else see that UConn player try and steal a laptop off the scorer's table?"

Who cares what they say? "It's not about the opponent. It's about us." I, like a lot of people on here, check out other message boards to see what other fans are saying and to get a different perspective. As you can tell from the above, there's quite a range.

From the Duke Rivals board: The big thing now is how we match up with Georgetown, since they come to Durham Jan. 17th. We have to stay disciplined on their Princeton style, back door cutting offense. In fact, this is the perfect type of offense to run against our pressure man-to-man defense. However, GU doesn't like to push the tempo a whole lot, so if we can get steals in the open court and run them to death, then I think we can handle everything else they will throw at us. Depth will be huge for both teams in our game though (they only play 7-8 consistently; we play 8 sometimes 9 consistently).
As far as matchups go, I know Scheyer likes to guard to other teams best perimeter player, so I'm assuming he's going to be on Freeman. Here's how I see the rest of the matchups going:
Nolan on Sapp Scheyer on Freeman Henderson on Wright Singler on Summers Zoubek on Monroe (yikes!)
First of the bench for us: Lance, Greg, & McClureduke.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=1690&tid=122583665&mid=122583665&sid=1021&style=2

Have they seen the tape of the UNC Elite 8 game? Have they seen how much faster we are this year?

Love the posts on the Duke message board - Monroe is not that good and their current centers are playing just as well as Greg is. www.dukebasketballreport.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13433"He had a good game- mainly because he hit his first two 3's of the season and had a few nice hooks over the UConn big man. He also had some nice assists. Three rebounds, however, is not exactly dominating. He is still a bit raw and not very physical. Duke is getting a lot out of its center position this year. Having Monroe would not really change much- except a bit more depth." To be fair to the Duke fans, it can't be easy watching their starting center dominate like that. ;D

Duke's going to be in a huge quandry in this game.
Zoubek couldn't guard my mother on the perimeter, much less Greg. That's going to be ugly. So they have a few options. They can cut Brian's minutes to nothing, which makes them seriously small, put Thomas on Monroe and watch as Monroe promptly goes to work on the blocks.
Or they can switch Singler on Monroe, Zoubek on Summers and watch as DuJuan has a field day. Smith and Wright will be a good matchup, but Henderson can't guard Austin and I'm not sure that Smith can stay in front of Wright, although he's a good defender.
We have a great shot in this game, except for the fact that we'll no doubt be playing 5 on 8. That's the depressing thing about this game. I know we're going to get jerked down there. Zoubek will flop to pick up one foul on Greg, Singler will throw his body into him for the second foul and he'll have to have his minutes monitored all game.
If we get a fair whistle, we have a good shot. If we don't, which we won't, it's going to be a real uphill climb.

Just shot a look at the Cuse scout board, basically every thread on the front page is about the game last night.
And of course there was lots of rooting for the meteor

(which they can't of course) Thanks kc for compiling the quotes. good times.

To be fair to Duke fans, Duke wouldn't know how to properly use Monroe were he in a Duke uni this season.

Well, that and the facts that (i) K is a great coach and (ii) Cameron is a brutal place to play. Two years ago we had the better player on the court at every position and still lost, and I don't recall the refs playing any role whatsoever. On the other hand, the prior trip to Cameron was a disgrace with Sweetney's two nickel-dimers to start the second half.

I'm sorry, the "Thugtown" comment made me laugh out loud considering Bob Huggins, b.k.a. Thuggy Bear, coaches those Mountaineers. Hilarious.

That idiot always calls Georgetown "Thugtown"...<shrugs> they are still salty about Pat's epic SWAT at the end of the game in Morgantown last year. oh well...they will have another opportunity to get beat down again quite soon. Yeah, and that was actually just, um, salt in the wound, because their love affair with Pat began the year before after the infamous "grabby" incident. Some of their message board guys haven't been able to let go ever since. There was a straight up classic thread on the Ewing-Beilein incident on one of the WVU boards last year...I believe ahead of our game in Morgantown. What made it so mind blowing was how many Mountaineer fans were still so angry at Beilein that almost as many folks in the thread were now blaming Grabby for the incident.

I don't think K's a great coach. A great coach develops his players, he doesn't do that. He's had great talent over the years, no doubt. But I just don't think he's a great coach. And Cameron's a brutal place to play because Duke gets calls in that building that no other team in college basketball gets anywhere else. The only team that gets to actually play in that place is North Carolina. I watched the Rhode Island game from earlier in the season, and the Rams made it close, and I knew the refs would bail the Devils out each and every time down the court. And that's what happened. I don't like to complain about officiating, but it's the sad truth down there. If we're 15 points better than Duke this season, we win by two. If we're 10 points better, we lose. Simple as that.

You might be right on some of this, but give Coach K some credit. He built that program to where it is, so that they are getting the talented recruits, the home court advantage, the refs, etc. Duke was nothing when he first arrived in 1980.
