Milwaukee, WI in mid-winter, what's not to love?
SFHoya, myself and a few others are in the initial stages of planning a "roadtrip" to the Marquette game on 1.31.09 in Milwaukee.
We have secured airfare and are working on tickets and accommodation now. Any suggestions by area locals would be much appreciated.
As always, we welcome anyone else who would like to join this traveling band of merrymakers. In the past, we've gone to Oregon, Louisville and Birmingham. This promises to be an equally enjoyable time.
If you plan to be in Milwaukee for the game or want to join in the roadtrip, post here or PM either of us for more details. We hope to see lots of Hoya fans there.

I had the good fortune to be at last year's game and had a blast. Complete with confrontations with ticked-off and classless Marquette fans afterwards, including a kid that threw a cigaratte at a female Hoya fan.
Yes, it's Milwaukee in the winter. Not the type of place you'd normally go to, but they're going to want revenge after last year, and it'd be sweet to be there when we deny them, again. Just make sure to visit a beer factory before the game, it's the only other thing to do there.
And on a side note about last year's game, I think J. Wallace will go down as one of the underappreciated Hoyas of all time although he gets lots of love right now from people on this board). Kids 5 years from now will have no clue how many games we won on his shoulders. Not a great athlete but an exceptional ball player who never got the credit he probably deserves having played with Jeff and Roy.

Yeah, Milwaukee takes it's sports seriously!! I am a Milwaukee Hoya and I almost got into with some little girl (she was probaly about 19 or 20) who was obvisoulsy a marquette student/fan.
I had left my seat near the ceiling to get out of the building and to my car ASAP, when Dominic James fouls J. Wall and we go into overtime. Some girl gets an attitude because I was clapping, she even gives me this look and whispers to her friend like she was gonna whoop my a** or something. And I live here, my girl thought it was hillarious when I told her "I thought I was gonna have to put my hands on somebody". Hey the MU vs GU game is a big ticket now.
Anyway, it's gonna be a good game this year after what happened last year. There is usually a small but loud G-Town contigency, most of us are in the same section becasue the only available seats are in the upper deck.
Get on point before you land here, it is below zero right now and we just got a foot of snow.

Coming soon after the holidays: the GU Club of Chicago will release details on the lottery for spots and tickets on our famous Marquette game bus trip.
Make sure your club membership is paid so you are eligible.
Begin to count down the days until 10am cured meat, cheese curds, and Old Style at the Brat Stop.
** thanks again to the GU Club of Wisconsin for the tickets! **

I will be there. I was at the game last year and I was with 10 Marquette grads and 1 very weird GU grad. It was a great game and knowing James with his ego writing checks his body can't cash, look forward to another wild ride. They now are developing a more reliable inside game so that could change the dynamic. If anyone is looking for tickets the broker we always use is Ticket King in Milwaukee. Ask for Jim or John 751 N. Broadway Milwaukee, WI 53202 800-334-5434. Also if you need help with lodging I have a club membership with accommodations and shuttle service to and from the Bradley center. Let me know. jffiv@franzoi.com

I was there last year as well. Coming up from Charlotte, NC was a rude awakening weather-wise, but I thought all in all it was a great time. I was in the lower bowl in the corner on the opposite side from where J-Wall hit the free throws. The first two were pure. The last one...well, it went in, so who cares?
The thing that's weird is that I hear awful stories about Marquette fans, and I had the exact opposite experience. I thought they were very respectful of me. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I was there with 2 MU grads, along with one non-partisan viewer, and maybe it was the 10 Sprechers I had before/during the game, and I can't remember, but I thought I was treated pretty well for such a painful loss. My MU buddies quickly got over the disappointment with another 10 Sprechers post game along with quite a nice run at the tables at Potawatomi that night. We won on the court, but I was the big loser there.
All in all, I was very impressed with Mill-ee-wahh-kaayyy...or, the good land. I'm looking forward to doing the home and home this year with my two MU buddies. Hoya Saxa!

I am new to HoyaTalk and to Milwaukee--but not to Hoya fandom! I'll be at the game in nosebleed seats (section 414) and looking forward to meeting the roadtripping Hoya faithful. If this is half the game last year's was, Hoya's will go home happy.
I recommend the Brady Street neighborhood, a 15-20 minute walk to the Bradley Center, for excellent vittles/drinks both pre- and post-game: Comet Cafe, the Hi-Hat, and Cempazuchi all excellent (and welcoming to non-MU folks).

muthengu can't be trusted. There were more than a few fake GU backers at last year's game who pulled for Marquette rather than Gtown, even for some who attended Georgetown for undergrad and never attended Marquette at any point in your life. Sickening.
I can't imagine hotel rates for Milwaukee are going to be very high in late January--I'd suggest staying at the Intercontinental or Hyatt, both walking distance from the Bradley Center (the Intercontinental is a bit nicer and east of the river, which is generally preferable if you're looking for good restaurants/bars--most of the establishments immediately surrounding the Bradley Center aren't worth your time if it isn't pregame or immediate postgame. In any event the best immediate postgame locations are on the Juneau/Water Street intersection--Trinity was packed after last year's game for the remainder of the day, if I remember correctly Gold Hoya led his Chicago-based crew over there eventually.
Brady Street, mentioned above, is fine if you have more time to spend, but I wouldn't necessarily head over there expecting to find other postgame revelers.
Feel free to PM me if you want any additional suggestions. I'll be at the game, as I've been at every Milwaukee GU-MU showdown since the Flu joined the conference. I also live downtown and can pretty much tell you something about any place you can mention.

Whatever you do, make sure you end the night at Real Chili. The heartburn is worth it.

Hey, cmon now. I'm all about helping people have a good experience in my hometown. Food - Sobelmanns is a must. Order a Sobelman, or Double/Triple/Quadruple/etc if you think you can handle it. You will not be disappointed. Its hard to describe how phenominal of a burger it is. Check the website...http://milwaukeesbestburgers.com/ As someone posted above, I would suggest capping the night off (whether it is right after the game, or 3 AM) at Real Chili on Marquette's Campus. Be prepared for heartburn and an overall flushing of your entire system...but it is worth it. Bars - Pregame...my favorite spots are Buck Bradleys (across the street from the Bradley Center) and/or Major Goolsbys (down the block, across from the U.S. Cellular Arena). Postgame...Plenty of options on Water Street, cant really go wrong heading down there. Its a short walk from the Bradley Center, or catch a cab and tell them to drop you off on Water Street. If your of the younger crowd, the Murphys and Caffreys on the Marquette Campus are pretty fun after basketball games, both have drink specials with your ticket stub. Murphys is a popular gathering place for the older players, if things go well at the Bradley Center. Hotels - Easy to find, most likely get pretty good rates all around town. No real opinion on any of them. If you have some time and are looking for something to do, head over to the Al McGuire Center and check out our facilities. Again, feel free to PM me or Email me if you have any questions. I CAN be trusted

The date looms.
Roll call for all Hoyas who will be in attendance.
I'd like to PM and get some cell phone numbers so we can coordinate festivities.

Anyone who goes there should eat at Mader's German Restaurant. The wiener schnizel is great.
