he never got into the AAU circuit and that is a big reason he has not been highly touted... Virginia has offered but like I have said and been told his father is highly impressed with us That is too bad for him (but good for us). I just looked at his rivals page now and see that he is one star. But you think that he is much better than that and it has been hurt because of no exposure? I love diamonds in the ruff a la JWall. BTW, anybody besides me kinda chuckling at the dichotomy between this thread and what you're reading on the main board? Over there we got all these folks whining and moaning about the "system" and some poor coaching job last night--it's like Hoyatalk collectively popped their "it's okay to bash JT3" cherry last night...and everyone bending over backwards to come up with the latest pet theory over what went wrong (and people are dredging up arguments straight from any Terrapins message board)... ...and right under their noses is a story of how, 24 hours after probably the most disappointing loss of his GTown career in NYC, JT3's in a HS gym in Kentucky visiting a guy who it seems quite likely will be a Hoya next season. Weird how life goes on and Coach keeps working while all of us argue ourselves in circles. Man, FL, I have been thinking the same thing. I havent really even been reading the main board ever since it became populated by Chicken Littles. I think this is an unexpected consequence of creating a Recruiting sub board- only the people who care about recruiting read it, and everyone else thinks the program is on its death bed. How many of those threads are crying about how no good players will want to come here because of the losses, but at the same time gtwon is a front runner for a top 20 recruit for next year!! Im Editeded about this year but knowing that if gtown gets Vee and Latavious along with one of Greg or Dajuan staying, this team will be scary good next year.

Vee isn't ranked that highly because he didn't get much exposure because he didn't play on the AAU circuit because his dad wouldn't let him?
Now, why does that sound so familiar? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

I couldn't agree with you guys more... I couldn't open the Couirier link but my friend is positive there has not been an offer yet... from our conversation last night he said that JT3 wants to get Vee on campus... ASAP! He deifinitely thinks his Rivals rating is is a direct result of his little (virtually no) AAU exposure... I am anxious to see him tonight.

Check out the Washington Post write-up on the DeMatha-Gonzaga WCAC championship game last nite at AU. Sitting right in the front row courtside were JT III and the eternal Morgan Wooten (recall that JT II, Pops, barely spoke to Wooten because Wooten would never schedule games against Thompson's St. Anthony's dominant teams of the 70's - anybody old enough to say Merlin Wilson and Jonathan Smith?). And tonight, don't be surprised if we see him in the gym at Georgetown Prep representing the Hilltop when Montrose Christian goes up against Oak Hill. One thing you got to say 'bout JT III: the man's working 24-7. What I want to know is who from DeMatha is interested in coming up to 37th & O next September? Austin Freeman's got to be working his iPod, texting some young Hoya wanna-be... Last point, the lamented dearth of current big men (especially Bangers) is really no more than a function of the slow maturation and acclimation of Julian Vaughan and Henry Sims. It would have been nice to see them step right in and make their mark but to the extent these young bucks put some hard work in this summer and come back in the fall ready to show how much fun there is in rebounding and shot-blocking, the board woes of this season will dissipate like clouds on a windy day.

Neither have ever been bangers. They will prob never be bangers. They are face up 4-men. Yes, they need to improve their rebounding, but what's needed is someone around them who is willing to rebound.

Quick impressions of watching Vee last night: First let me say he is a very polished/ poised/ "smooth" player... He is 6'3 but plays much taller... very long arms and just has a presence that seems taller than his height. Offensively he is a pure scorer... very good at creating his own shot and seemingly can get to the basket any time he wants... he only had 14 points last night but that was due to the physical nature of the defense that was played against him... he got bumped/hit/pushed seemingly every time he drove to the basket without many calls... It was hard to tell if he is a "pure shooter" as he only attempted a few spot up jump shots, but his form is pure... On the defensive end he looked a bit lazy at times, but when the game got close he showed he can play lock down defense... My concern with him moving forward (hopefully at the hilltop) is his strength... he was bumped around easily all night by a smaller set of guards... hopefully if we get him we can get him in the weight room... I think he would be a good addition just not sure how early he could contribute... To his defense I found out today he was battling the stomach flu, which may have accounted for some of the things I mentioned...Also, just talked to my friend, and apparently JT3 called Vee last night to see how he did, and Vee told him he only scored 14, but they got the win, and JT3 made it clear to Vee he is more concerned with what Vee did to help the team WIN rather than how many points he had... this impressed both Vee and his father.

I like the sound of Vee. It says a lot about what impresses him and his father.
We really need some shooting and another ballhandler for next year. Hoepfully, Vee is it. And hopefully Latavious can help out down low.

What I want to know is who from DeMatha is interested in coming up to 37th & O next September? I believe that would be Quinn Cook who is in the 2011 class. There is a thread dedicated to him if you want to check out more info.

from scout...
"Vee Sanford, PG/SG, Lexington Catholic – Although he didn’t shoot it great from the field (11-for-29), Sanford certainly left his print on the game. He showcased his go-to floater, attacked the rim and helped force turnovers late in the game when Catholic was trailing. Sanford was aggressive all game, and when it mattered most he found an open teammate, which lead to the winning free throws. The 6-foot-3 guard went for 26 points in the game."
11-29??? I have to ask if Vee has a jump shot? I know he can get to the bucket at the hs level, but does he have a jumper? I think he has the ball handling that we need, but we also need guys that can knock down shots from the perimeter and I would like to know if we can expect that from Vee should he commit?!

I mentioned that I wasn't sure about Vee's shooting and although I didn't see the game, my friend who coaches Vee told me the kid who guarded Vee last night is a STUD and has Louisville all over him right now (he's just a soph) and as time was expiring Vee was double teamed and made a miracle pass that led to the winning free throws... from what I hear and see the kid is a flat out winner... lucky for me they won and I will be watching him next week and hopefully get you guys a better report.

I would too, and gladly. But does he have a jump shot? Not saying I wouldnt take him if he didnt, just acknowledging that we need guys on the perimeter than can shoot it. Would like to know if he is one because it appears that much of his success comes from him getting to the cup. But we need that too so Im not complaining!
