1. I saw Jack Magee at dinner before the BC game and then again at the game. For those of you who don't know, he was the head coach at Georgetown before JT. I asked him if he was rooting for Georgetown or at least felt a conflict of interest about the game and he said "Not a chance" (he's a BC grad and former assistant).
2. I thought I was depressed on Sunday morning (as much due to my hangover as the result of the game), but when I got to the airport I could tell my depression was nothing compared to that of our players. Not unexpectedly, they were all completely dejected on the plane...no one was talking to one another at all. Hopefully they can get it out of their system. I have. Let's win two key games this week and put the BC game behind us.

I was with Fan of the Game and I coudn't decide about how I felt about the Hoyas reaction. My guess is they were pretty tired (it was a 8AM) and down from the loss. I liked that attitude. I just hope they realize that they need to get over it and take care of business this week.
JTIII was on his computer and clearly looking at stats from the game and just shook his head the whole time. The guy doesn't stop at all.
Go Hoyas!

So wait, you guys took the same plane as the team to Boston? How did you hook that up?

They fly commercial. At least they did on this trip. It's possible that they had a charter but inclement weather caused them to have to fly commercial, but I assume they always fly commercial.

Haha, ok, so it sounds like a lucky coincidence. I thought you guys might have had some sweet hook ups or something (Napoleon Dynamite, anyone?). Still pretty cool though.

My bet is they were down from the loss and tired b/c of the early hour. Remember, they're college students-they can't function in the morning. Also, I saw Green and Wallace walking to class and they were talking and joking. I think they're over the loss, but aren't going to forget it, which is exactly what we're looking for.

I am glad that they were down after the loss. If you score 12 points in a half, you should be down. This is a sign of a team that wants to win games. Compare this reaction today to last year when the heads never came back up.

Jack Magee needs to get over himself (after 30+ years, no less!). You go 3-23 in a season, you get fired. That simple. In fact, it may have been one of the best things ever to happen to the program and university since it allowed JT to enter the Hilltop.

I'm really worried about Wallace. He got benched and looked especially down waiting for the plane. Most of the guys had headphones on or something, but he just sat there looking off into space.
JTIII may need to build these guys back up again. Huge game on Wed.
A lot of the Big East teams just take commerical flights in general. Especially if it's just shuttles to Philly, NY or Boston.
Team also take the train a fair amount.

I don't know the history that is there with sour grapes, if one exists. However, I don't blame Magee. If his allegiance is to BC due to his collegiate experiences and so forth, by all means cheer for BC.

My point is, if there are sour grapes on his part, there's absolutely no justification for them!!

If you go 3-23 for a season, you have earned your dismissal. However, he may have done a good job with the 60% of his job that really matters. ;D

The best thing happened for both parties. Speaking of someone who coined the 60% phrase, I have no factual basis for this claim but I'd be willing to bet the grapes are a lot less sour over at the workplace in Dulles, VA. But then again, that coach bleeds blue and grey and not crimson and gold.....

I do agree with you about Esherick, and I only pointed that out somewhat sarcastically to suggest an area in which Magee may have been successful.
As for Esh, kudos to him for picking up the pieces and moving on. I only view him as being sour grapes prior to his dismissal when he was on the hot seat and made some ill-advised comments directed to fans who were disappointed in the state of the program, and rightfully so. However, he said what he could after the dismissal from his point of view, and he moved on shortly thereafter by taking his leave peacefully. Though I don't believe he has appeared at a GU game this season (probably well advised), I imagine that he is still supportive in whatever capacity he can be.

There's a back story to Magee and his grudge.
According to reports at that time (perhaps some '70's era alumni can clarify), Magee never got along with the then-AD, Bob Sigholtz. Sigholtz didn't plan on extending the contract past 1970, but the team made the NIT and Magee was rewarded by GU with a two year extension. In the final year of that extension, Sigholtz proceeded to schedule for Magee a ridiculous eight game, cross-country road trip that included #2 ranked Marquette, Wisconsin, LSU, Texas, and a very good San Francisco team, among others. GU lost all eight and Magee's coaching career was over. (Remember, this was a coach who GU only budgeted $2,400 a year for his recruiting efforts.)
A lot has changed since then but a BC Hall of Famer like Magee isn't going to have warm feelings for a school whose scheduling may have set him up to fail.

Regarding Magee, it was notable that he did not appear at the 69-70 NIT tribute, or at least he was not introduced with the team at halftime. Didn't he have a poisonous relationship with the AD, resulting in a nearly impossible schedule the year of 3-23?
Edit: DFW obviously just beat me to it, with lots more information as always.
