If we don't improve on the glass, this will be a long, long season.

It looks like they're not anticipating where the ball will go/putting themselves in good position to grab it. Part of that may be needing to see more action and learning how to rebound without having Roy and/or Pat out there. We know the athletic tools are there, but the Shockers looked like they were A) swarming to the ball and B) putting themselves in a much better position to grab the board. They certainly weren't outmuscling or ourjumping our guys or anything...

At times it seems we are looking at the ball and not putting a body on somebody. Rebounding 101.

Has to be a team effort. each guy needs to attack the glass and find a body. we play with small lineup often b/c dajuan is not a natural post/low block forward. we need everyone to improve their defensive rebounding instincts. rebounding is a mentality.

At times it seems we are looking at the ball and not putting a body on somebody. Rebounding 101. Exactly--standing and watching is not a very good rebounding technique! As the saying goes.....SIZE DOESN'T MATTER!!! We just need to aggressively go after the ball and block out the other team. We don't need to be a dominating team on the boards (although I REALLY wish we were), but we need to be much better at collecting all those misses we caise the other team to have......today was a very poor job of that and hopefully we'll see MUCH better as time goes on. Actually let's start tomorrow!

There was one particular play when Omar had just entered the game in the second half and he went up and tipped a ball and eventually came down with it - an absolutely 100% hustle rebound. THAT's the kind of film I'd be showing the other guys over and over.
I will say that yesterday a lot of the offensive rebounds Wichita State nabbed were longish bounces off the rim on the same side as the shooter. It seemed our rebounding "scheme" was off kilter, just like the offense, with too many guys checking out the same opponent and other guys being left all alone.
I hope it's just a matter of getting more comfortable with teammates and their places on the court, but I'm not so sure, since giving up offensive rebounds has been a problem in the past few years as well.
By the way, I apologize to the guy sitting in front of us who my baby kept slapping in the back. He's a fiesty sucker!

Has III had a team at G'Town that's been a very good rebounding team?! Seems to be a year-after-year complaint. Yup. The important thing is that this is not a "lack of effort" issue - it's apparently coached in as part of the approach to running the offense and defense. Over the years, the offense and defense have worked very well and have yielded impressive results. I'd obviously like improved rebounding, but it does not seem central to our success.

I've been saying the same thing for a couple of years. III now has players that he personally recruited but the rebounding issue persists. Obviously, his system and / or his philosophy do not place a priority in rebounding. I have always thought a lot of it was related to the help defense, which leaves guys out of position, but I really haven't figured it out.

No way is it his philosophy or system, at least at game time. If you want to argue that his philosophy is to recruit multi-talented players and rebounding is his not his first priority, I would agree with that. I've seen him PLENTY of times, yesterday included, get on guys for not rebounding/blocking out/aggressively going for the ball, so I think the problem lies more with the individuals who just aren't that great at rebounding. It's not like JT3 doesn't give a flying flip about rebounds, though, that's for sure.

Unless you think all of the players III inherited and all the players he recruited to-date are just by their nature not great rebounders, I think it is pretty fair to say that it is not just a problem with individuals. And I am not saying III doesn't care about rebounding, just that his system or philosophy may not place as high a priority on it as it does other things, such as having the big man help out.
