During the Syracuse-Kansas game- "They've got a good freshman named Monroe. Thomspon says he's going to be a big contributor" He then talked about "one of their kids coming back from an injury", obviously forgetting Wright's name, and then asked Dan Shulman- "and Sapp is back at the guard slot, right?" Made the requisite plug for the Old Spice and the good teams playing. For the second straight night Vitale made sure to mention that Maryland was going to be there.. "Everyone forgets about Maryland" he said. Yesterday he added: "You can never count Gary Williams out" and "Vasquez can match up against anyone in the country."

He may be getting old but he did name the 6 players Kansas lost this past year rather quickly. He just doesn't know anything about our team this year. Which is forgivable...for now. And when talking about the Big East and saying Syracuse is a top 5 BE team when talking about the other teams they would battle with under UConn, UL, ND, and Pitt I believe they mentioned Providence, Villanova, and West Virginia. Obviously leaving us out.

at this point any vitale called game is unhearable. he does not pay attention to the game. the fact that he is talking about gary williams at all during the game shows how lost he is.

Dick Vitale is absolutely impossible to listen to. Anytime hes doing a game i have to watch i always turn the volume down. He goes on and on talking about his stupid diaper dandies and PTP'ers and totally neglects the game going on at hand. One game is coming down to the wireunder 3 points with seconds to go and hes talking about freaking nonsense. Second of all, all he cares about is Dook and carolina. Hes constantly licks coach K's manhood its just distusting. Time to move on dont you think?

Can someone at that network replace him with Knight? He is awesome. Calls the game like he is coaching and doesn't feel the need to suck-up to anyone unlike vitale.

Vitale generally makes a few cogent observations for about the first ten minutes of the broadcast about the game on the court. I think, quite literally, he is reading from notes someone has prepared for him next to players names, once they touch the ball he looks at the notes and says something that sounds thought through. Once those notes are done, generally by about the 10 minute mark of the first half, it is all down hill.

like him or hate him, his enthusiasm for college basketball is unmatched by any announcer in this era and his style and delivery (which i dont really care for) has become synonomous with big time college basetkball. considering his health issues, age etc. in my opinion, criticism needs to be limited.
no doubt he'll know Wrights name by year's end and will be praising Monroe like he's the next coming.

...and will be praising Monroe like he's the next coming. He would have been doing that for months already had Greg gone to Duke instead of Georgetown.

I love that Dookie doesn't know about us yet. I hope no one really does. I don't want to have our boys be the team that other teams "get up" for. I'd rather have them not see us coming then finding out that our road to march runs right over their collective bleeps.
And, agree with mit0313 about Knight's style of commentary. One of the few guys in the business that I actually feel like I've learned something after having listened to one of his broadcasts.

The best situation would be if Vitale did more non-game related stuff. his enthusiasm is great, except thats what makes him blabber on and on. In a studio setting he would be great. Im think that doug gottdweeb could use a long vacation to commit more credit card fraud and Dickie-V could take his seat in the studio.

Matt Doherty was that way. Too bad he's a coach again these days. I think he was much better in his very brief secondary career as an announcer than he is as a basketball coach at any program.
